I’m getting an intermittent notification about Safari being infected on my iMac. Should I be concerned?

From time to time a notification pops up on my iMac warning that it - or specifically Safari - is "infected". The message just stays there for a few seconds, unlike normal notifications which stay until I dismiss them. The last one said "Safari is infected, reload Safari". Is this likely to be some kind of scam or might I really have a virus in Safari?

Thanks

Nigel

p.s. It is a new 24" iMac running Ventura 13.1

Open Safari > Settings… > Websites > Notifications and clear out the list.

FWIW, the current version of Ventura is 13.4.1 (c), you should update.

Could be a scam to try and get you to open or download something.

Could also be from some third party blocker or AV-ware that you added to Safari or the macOS.

For a better idea of where the message is from, run EtreCheckPro on your iMac.
