Hi SantaSadler,
Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! If your iPhone does not appear in the sidebar in Finder, the steps below may help:
If your device doesn’t appear in the sidebar when connected to Mac
If you connected your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac using a USB cable and don’t see it in the Finder sidebar, check the following:
•Check that the cable is properly connected. When your Mac and device are connected correctly, you should see that your device is charging.
• Make sure that the device is unlocked and the Home Screen is visible.
•Check that Finder settings are set to show your device in the sidebar. See the instructions below.
Set Finder settings to show your device in the sidebar
1. Connect your device to your Mac.
2. You can connect your device using a USB or USB-C cable or using a Wi-Fi connection. See Sync content between your Mac and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch over Wi-Fi.
3. In the Finderon your Mac, choose Finder > Settings.
4. Click Sidebar.
5. Below Locations, select the CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices checkbox.
6. Check the sidebar again, below Locations, to see if your device is showing.
7.
8. Click the device to see the syncing options.
If your device still doesn’t appear in the sidebar, see the Apple Support article If your computer doesn’t recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod
Hope this helps!
Have a great day.

Hi there SantaSadler,
If you followed all the steps suggested previously and you still can't see your iPhone in Finder when it's connected to your iMac, upgrading your iMac to the most current software version is the next best step. The most recent release is macOS Ventura 13.5. If needed, learn how to upgrade the software on your iMac here: How to upgrade to macOS Ventura - Apple Support
Take care.
Hello SantaSadler,
Thanks for those details.
At this point, please reach out to Apple Support directly, as this may require closer guidance: Get Support
Cheers!
Nope - I've done all that. I have tried doing the same with my iPhone to my MacBook Air and guess what? That worked!
I have Monterey 12.6.7 running on the iMac and Big Sur on my MacBook Air. Security options are more comprehensive on Monterey. Any ideas on which security options need to be set with Monterey to try to make the iPhone connection work? Or maybe some OS profile(s) need to be reset/trashed?
Thanks for your help. Everything little bit helps...
David S.
Trouble is I've been burned upgrading to new OSX versions a couple times - took me off line and had to scramble like crazy to get Humpty-dumpty back together again.
Right now not able to take any chances with getting knocked off line. Was hoping someone might know the steps to take to get the iPhone connection working with Monterey.
