Contacts and the spinning ball of death

I saw a few prior threads on this, but no satisfactory answer. When I use Contacts on my iMac, it is VERY, VERY SLOW with the spinning ball of death often showing up. I checked the Activity Monitor and it uses an absurd amount to CPU time (sometimes over 100%, which is weird). I have 3000+ contacts, but this is never a problem on my iPhone or iPad which work fine with Contacts. My iMac (2019, 27", Intel) is and always has been 100% updated, so please don't give that answer again.

It will help us get a good idea of what is causing your problem if you provide a report of your system, that way we do not have to play 20 questions with you.
