Installation of Ventura on Samsung T7 SSD failing every time

I'm trying to use a Samsung T7 SSD with my M1 iMac. I've formatted the SSD correctly - APFS and GUID, downloaded Ventura. I select the correct drive for installation and the process begins but it always gets stuck and never completes the installation. Using the supplied cable and following all instructions correctly (I think!).

Obviously when I try again, it doesn't work as the SSD now has an incomplete installation on it so I have to erase and retry. I've done this at least 10 times but it's just not working.

Anyone got any idea why this is happening and what I can do? Thanks

iMac

Apple has been making it harder and harder to boot from external drives. In late intel macs you had to start in recovery, run Startup Security Utility and lower the settings in order to allow it. I have not tried a similar thing on M1 macs. Maybe it works but the point is that a Mac as it comes from the factory will not boot from external drives without the user having to do something to allow it. Of you haven’t then things are probably working as Apple designed them to.
