Apple A1379 SuperDrive Issues

I have an old Apple A1379 SuperDrive that does not seem to be working. It makes a noise when I plug it in but it does not accept a disk.

I have a MacBook Pro 2020 intel. Is there some way to fix the SuperDrive? I followed all of these steps I saw in an old thread and it still has not worked.

A: I would try Step II of above

1. Restart: the Mac

2. Unplug: the Drive

3. Wait: 30 Seconds

4. Plug in: the Drive

5. Boot Up: the Mac

6. Log In: as the same user

If that does not work, then...

B. Boot Into Safe Mode:

In Safe Mode, all caches are set aside, and items are reset to how they should be. So, once booted into it, shut down then proceed to

I. Log into Safe Mode:

1. Restart: the Mac

2. Boot Into: Safe Mode (hold down shift key upon boot)

3. Log In: as the same user

4. Shut Down: the Mac

II. Unplug and Plug Drive and Boot

1. Unplug: the Drive

2. Wait: 30 Seconds

3. Plug in: the Drive

4. Boot Up: the Mac

5. Log In: as the same user

If that is of no success...

C. Reset the SMC and your NVRAM:

Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for Ports) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. Your hard drive may not be being read promptly, so resetting these, all of the ports would be configured to how they should be. Then, restart the Mac.

Hey agustina132,

We see you've gone through some great troubleshooting steps. To ensure the issue isn't user account specific, test in a new user account: Add a user or group on Mac. If the issue doesn't happen in the new user account, If it does happen in the other user account, check the login items in your normal account: Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac - Apple Support

Make sure the Superdrive is connected directly to the Mac and not through a hub: How to connect the Apple USB SuperDrive.

If you continue to experience an issue, we suggest contacting Apple support for assistance: Get Support.

Take care.
