how to transfer email password from iphone13 to my 2018 mac mini (Catalina).

I have an old email address (with a provider who says they no longer own the email service, but still receive but cannot send emails). However, whilst it still works on my iPhone 13, Apple Mail message says it cannot verify the password or email address. I have tried different passwords (variations) in case that might work. However, the iPhone password still works and it receives emails, but Apple Mail does not. The iPhone password is blanked out of course, so I cannot simply use it or transfer to Apple Mail Account Settings. If I could do that on Apple Mail I would perhaps be able to “manage” the account, and gradually move important activity away from that email address. Is there some way to obtain the password from my iPhone please? I do have iCloud email, and prefer to use Apple Mail and a proper keyboard instead of touch screen on iPhone.

iPhone 6s, iOS 15

I believe it's this problem similar for Virgin...

Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

If it's an IMAP account, delete it in Sys Prefs Internet Accounts then use "Other" instead of gMail choice to add it.

Most likely biggest factor is using Other in Mail setup, then using a Browser that doesn’t have gMail PW stored init to get the App PW.

It might just need an App Password separate from the gMail password…

Yahoo App password…

Generate and manage third-party app passwords

Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app.

Using app passwords with apps that don't support two-step verification (microsoft.com)

What about application passwords? Will that keep working?

If application passwords are being used for MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) along with basic auth as another auth mechanism, then when basic authentication is disabled, app passwords used for MFA will stop working too.

Where can I find more information?

Thanks for such a prompt reply.

Unfortunately it does not cover my problem.

I already knew how to transfer emails.

My problem is the Email Account (on my Mac) has stopped working and whatever password I insert I get an error message saying "cannot verify password or username”. Until recently I received and sent from Apple Mail on Mac without problem. I know the Username is correct, so suspect the password is the problem.

However, my iPhone13 has continued to work with the Email Account without this problem. That led me to assume the password must be correct, but of course I cannot see or read what it is.

The provider is/was Virgin who have been taken over by O2 in UK last month. Virgin tell me they cannot help, but they have send every Monthly Bill to this email without problem.

Is there some way I can “reveal” the password on my iPhone please? It works, so I assume if I have that I can insert it into Apple Mail on my Mac, and it might solve my problem?
