How do I stop mail from deleting emails in my inbox--running OS 10.15.7
The application automatically deletes (or maybe moves) my inbox emails after about 1-2 weeks. How do I change so that it does not delete them?

It sounds like your emails are being deleted unexpectedly. We can help.
One possible reason for this is if a rule is set up to either move the messages or delete them after a period of time. You can check out this article to learn more about how to Use rules to manage emails you receive in Mail on Mac:
1. In the Mail appon your Mac, choose Mail > Settings, then click Rules.
2. To review an example of a rule, select a provided rule, then click Edit. To close the rule, click Cancel.
3. Click Add Rule, then type a name for the rule.
4. Indicate whether any or all of the conditions must be true for the rule to be applied to a message.
5. Specify the conditions.
6. To use different header fields in conditions, choose “Edit header list” from the bottom of the first pop-up menu. To add your own header, click the Add buttonin the Message Headers window.
7. Choose actions to perform on messages that meet the conditions. To specify multiple actions, click the Add button.
8. You can use AppleScript scripts as rule actions.
9. When you’re done, click OK, then decide to apply rules to existing messages already in mailboxes or to new messages.
10. You can apply rules to existing messages later by choosing Message > Apply Rules.
If you continue running into difficulty, you may also want to check with your email provider to make sure nothing is happening at the account level on their end.
Hope that helps.
Take care.

Modern e-mail tends to use the IMAP protocol which keeps the messages on the server. This means your view is the same from any device or client.
It also means that if any client is configured to delete mail after a week, they would disappear from all the IMAP clients.
Your statement that your old black MacBook shows all your mail, seems to indicate it is configured to retrieve your e-mail via POP, which downloads everything from the server and keeps it locally.
Your e-mail provider SHOULD be able to see who is deleting the mail... Good luck, and let us know what you find. Sharing the E-mail provider might be of help also.
Hello biancoraven,
Thanks for that info. Only the Email Service Provider can say if you can make it a POP account.
In the Mac Mail app, you can choose Mail > Settings > Accounts > Choose the right account > Mailbox behaviors. Under that tab is where you should be able to choose erase deleted mails after time.
If it's not there, only the Email Service Provider can change those settings. Thanks.
My webmail displays the same thing as the Mac mail.
The email provider telephone tech support had to refer this to to a higher level tech support and they will get back to me. Yea, any bets I never hear from them?
Just glad my old old black MacBook doesn't have this issue, it's my back up email.
Apple telephone support said it's not a setting in the mail appt and they recommended talking to the email provider.
So, it looks like it's a setting in the email provider that is doing this but I couldn't find that setting and neither could the telephone tech support.
Very frustrating.
Hi biancoraven,
Are you able to access your inbox online via a website? If so, do you notice that your messages appear as expected there?
Please reply back for more help.
Cheers!
If the black older machine still works than yes.
you could delete the account that is using IMAP.
then create a new one using pop, copying the settings from the old MacBook.
BUT, they should be able to set IMAP to not delete messages from your inbox, unless you are actually doing that from one of your clients…
Hi biancoraven,
Hopefully your email provider support can provide you with some information about what may be going on. Keep us posted.
Best regards.
There are no rules established in mailbox behaviors. The email provider maintains the emails longer than two weeks which when they are downloaded to the MacBook Air my understanding is it is then the mail app that determines the length but not sure how to change that setting.
The email provider is General Communications Inc. (gci.com) supporting Alaska. I'm located in Anchorage but they have been bought out, no longer local alaska company and all of their support is from an off shore contractor.
Thank you, yes the account is IMAP for my up to date devices and the black Mac is POP.
I just hope gci can figure out where the setting is that automatically deletes the mail after 2 weeks. I was surprised the telephone tech couldn't find it.
Is their a way to change my current devices to POP?
