icloud files on ipad always hangs when accessing

Whenever I try, from my ipad, to download a file from icloud, or really even just open a folder in icloud, it hangs for long, long minutes. I am not talking about waiting for 15 seconds, I have to wait for 10 minutes. Whatever app I am using freezes and I can't do anything with icloud on any other app.

mzeemartin,

Thank you for those details. Let's remove the Files app and reinstall it following these steps:

"Remove apps

Do any of the following:

  • Remove an app from the Home Screen: Touch and hold the app on the Home Screen, tap Remove App, then tap Remove from Home Screen to keep it in App Library, or tap Delete App to delete it from iPad.
  • Delete an app from App Library and Home Screen: Touch and hold the app in App Library, tap Delete App, then tap Delete. (See Find your apps in App Library on iPad.)

If you change your mind, you can redownload apps you’ve deleted."

Additional details can be found here: Remove apps from iPad

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Which iPadOS version do you currently have? Also, when did you first notice this?

Cheers!

Hello mzeemartin,

Just to clarify, does this happen only with iCloud files, or do you experience the issue when opening or downloading other files as well? Does this happen when connected to a specific network only, or multiple networks? Do you ever receive an error message? If so, what does the error say?

The above details will help us plan how to proceed.

If your iPad is running slowly, please check out the information in this link, which has some suggestions that may be helpful: If your iPhone or iPad is running slow

Check your network conditions

Many apps require an internet connection for their content and other functionality. If the network that you're connected to is congested — for example, at an event with many people using the same network — apps might take a while to open or display their content. Your device can also seem slow as it repeatedly reconnects to new cell towers when you're in a moving vehicle.

Even if your device indicates a strong signal, you might need to wait, try again in a different location, or use available Wi-Fi. If you continue to experience issues with cellular data speed, availability, or performance in multiple locations, contact your carrier.

Thanks!

Only with iCloud files. Happens anywhere on any network. (My home network is 500 mb with better than average latency (FIOS). No error messages.

My iPad is NOT running slowly. It works fine with Netflix, web browsing. I have noticed that icloud photo sync is sometimes really delayed, but most of the pain is in files. PDFs, Pages, even a text file.

Once it gets over its hang time it then performs more or less normally. Not hugely fast to open a file but at least within fives and tens of seconds as opposed to minutes.

I signed out my apple ID and signed back in, and now it seems to be working pretty well. But I don't need to tell you, I hope, that this is not a solution.
