iphone has wrong appleid on it

I am trying to set up an apple watch and my iphone has an old appleid and will not give me a chance to enter my current one

You will need to sign out of the old Apple ID first. If you no longer remember the password for it, you can try this support article assuming the old Apple ID is one that you used previously.
