  1. Check Network Connection: Ensure that your MacBook Pro is connected to the internet via a stable Wi-Fi connection or an Ethernet cable. A reliable internet connection is necessary for searching and purchasing content in iTunes.
  2. Update iTunes: Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your MacBook Pro. To check for updates, open the App Store on your Mac, click on the "Updates" tab, and see if there's an update available for iTunes.
  3. Check Apple ID and Payment Information: Ensure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID in iTunes and that your payment information is up to date. If there are any issues with your Apple ID or payment method, it could affect your ability to make purchases.
  4. Restart iTunes: Quit iTunes and then reopen it. Sometimes, restarting the application can resolve minor glitches.
  5. Clear iTunes Cache: Clearing the iTunes cache might help if there's a problem with cached data. To do this, quit iTunes and then navigate to the following folder: ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iTunes. Delete the contents of this folder, but be cautious not to delete any critical system files.
  6. Check Parental Controls: If you have parental controls enabled on your Mac, it might restrict certain actions like purchasing content. Make sure that your settings are configured correctly.
  7. Firewall and Security Software: Check if any firewall or security software is blocking iTunes from accessing the internet. Adjust the settings if necessary.
  8. Reset NVRAM/PRAM: Resetting the NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory) or PRAM (Parameter RAM) on your Mac can sometimes resolve issues related to hardware settings. Restart your Mac and hold down the Option, Command, P, and R keys simultaneously until you hear the startup sound a second time.
  9. Update macOS: While you mentioned your macOS version is 11.6, ensure that all available software updates for macOS are installed. Sometimes, updating the operating system can fix compatibility issues.
  10. Contact Apple Support: If none of the above steps work, consider reaching out to Apple Support for more personalized assistance. They can guide you through troubleshooting steps specific to your situation.

Remember to back up your important data before attempting any troubleshooting steps that might affect your system.

Your post is a bit confusing. Your equipment line indicates you're running Big Sur. As I recall, the iTunes application no longer exists in Big Sur. The music functions were replaced by the Music application. Can you confirm what you've actually got?

If you're using Music, see this article:

Search for music in Music on Mac - Apple Support

Particularly note this bit:

If you don’t see iTunes Store, choose Music > Settings, click General, make sure iTunes Store is selected, then click OK.
