Any time I select full screen in Airplay from iPhone to Apple TV, Samsung or L&G Tv it fails and shows the device's Airplay screen. Works fine in window but stops immediately on maximising / full screen. This looks like a consistent Apple issue. Have they / anyone seen any resolution. 000's of Google searches on the subject with no response.

What’s picture and picture mode?
I’ve found a fix..
if you can get the picture to goto the Picture in Picture mode..I went to a messenger screen, then swiped back to the streaming tube 😏..service, then hit the full size icon…it started working again.
a clunky workaround, not terrible though.

Try the following:
Go to the Settings on your Apple TV and click the AirPlay option. Then click the AirPlay Display Underscan option. Enabling this setting will automatically set your screen mirror at full screen.
Go to the TV's settings and locate the Audio & Video option. You will be able to see other settings under the Adjust for AirPlay Overscan button.

Apple, when will we hear from you? There are other bugs you fail to fix so I am a bit hopeless.

I turned my iPhone sideways to enter landscape mode, then enabled Screen Mirror on my Fire TV Smart TV. This got me mostly full screen display of my photos in slideshow playing mode. However, the TV screen display was shaking at times, and the slideshow seemed to be running very fast with fast transitions....not sure what was going on...but this worked for me without any Apple TV being used......good luck
How do you select picture in picture
I couldn't find Picture in Picture mode - HOWEVER you also have to tell the television you are watching that you want to have fullscreen mode - I tried this for ages both with the Apple TV and LG TV was using and the LGTV overrode the full screen mode as it was defaulting to the safari pop out. Once both APPLE Tv AND LGTV were full screen mode it worked
What would be useful would be an option in safari for full screen mirroring :)
Finally solved this!
Before mirroring, play it full screen on your iPhone first. Then, slide it up to make it into a small floating window on your home screen. That’s when you start mirroring then press full screen. Voila!
Screen mirror > Picture in Picture > full screen 👍

That was on my iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 17.5.1 the turning iPhone sideways into Landscape mode, launching photos and slide show with Screen Mirroring ON to my Fire TV Smart TV - both devices on same WiFi network as required.
