Sound when connected to external monitor

I have connected to an external monitor via iPad>Dock>HDMI-HDMI>Monitor. I don’t know if my monitor has speakers, but I want the sound to play out of my iPad. I connected Bluetooth headphones but no sound came out. I don’t think this matters, but I have iPad Air 5 (2022).

When connecting an external monitor via HDMI, iPadOS will direct both video and audio to the connected monitor - whether or not the monitor itself has built-in speakers.

Some users report success in directing audio to Bluetooth speakers before connecting the monitor to the iPad via an HDMI Adapter or USB-C hub.
