cannot connect tr7020 since upgrading

Since upgrading to Ventura both my Mac Mini (M2) and my Macbook Air (M1) can no longer see my Canon TR7020 printer.

It used to work fine. And it works fine from my wife's PC, so it is definitely connected to the network, leaving me in the embarrassing situation of having to send her things that I need to print or get her to scan from it.

I have installed all the necessary software, including going to the Canon page and following the drop downs to specify Mac and Ventura and installing what was shown there. The Canon software shows it during the utility install but when I go into preferences to add a printer - nothing shows up.

I've even tried adding it by IP but it says it cannot connect to it.

Anyone have a suggestions?

Thanks!

The TR7020/7020a models are supported by Apple's AirPrint (but only if networked) without any need for Canon drivers. Scanning would be done with Apple's Image Capture, or the optional VueScan Professional which would drive the scanner without Canon or Apple drivers.

I just checked the Canon site for the PIXMA TR7020 and they show no drivers available for Ventura all the way back to Mavericks (10.9). That would be a show-stopper. Also, the manual for this device says it does not support 5Ghz Wi-Fi networks and only 2.4 Ghz 802.11b,g, or n networks. That means you would need a separate wireless network to support this device than being used for your Mac and Windows machines which would benefit from faster Wi-Fi protocols and security. Or use a wired ethernet connection via a switch to your Mac and wife's PC.

With the TR7020 (or TR7020a) powered, and networked (Wi-Fi, or Ethernet, with no USB cables attached), you may need to Reset the Printing System and add the device again. See my process in a previous post for re-adding an AirPrint device.

Once in a while, I notice that my AirPrint laser printer shows up in the Printers listing with a green indicator, but AirPrint has dropped the ball during an operating system upgrade and I have to re-add the printer to get it working again. May be your issue, or sharing the printer with your wife's PC.

My Samsung laser printer is assigned a reserved (static) DHCP network address below the normal range of DHCP address assignments so its address never changes on my local network.

Everything is gong through a Nest router, which handles both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz.

I would imagine there is no issue with the PCs connecting at 5GHz and the Printer connecting at 2.4 GHz, and that certainly seems to be what is happening with my wife's windows PC.

I could potentially connect through my wife's PC using printer sharing, but that seems to be a backwards way of doing this, particularly when it worked before the update without a problem.

I'll need to look into Airprint as I have no idea how to do that (I'm still a recent convert to Apple) but I don't see that as an option anywhere.
