itunes preview not working on all songs

I like to preview new music on iTunes and about 2 weeks ago it started not previewing all songs. Some albums I can and some I can't. It's pretty frustrating. I am not subscribed to Music and I did go turn it off based on some other Q&As from last year. Didn't help. Has anyone else started experiencing this lately?

I initially thought this issue was probably related to my setup but entries on this discussion clear suggests to me it’s a widespread problem. I have the same issues with iTunes on Microsoft 10. I now firmly believe this is an engineered bug put in place by Apple to have us all migrate to subscription model. Why else would we not have seen action to fix these issues or at least an acknowledgment that the problem exists and they’re being worked on.

Having the same problem with various ITunes and Music apps on 4 different Macs. I did check with other music friends to see if they had the same issues on a particular recent jazz album (Säje) https://music.apple.com/us/album/s%C3%A4je/1698400328. I got confirmation that the "Music" version 1.3.6.14 running on macOS Ventura 13.5.1 was previewing fine that album. Thanks Apple for looking deeply at what was lately modify to create this problem.

Hi "Not an Expert", like I said earlier on this page: I got confirmation from a friend that his "Music" version 1.3.6.14 running on macOS Ventura 13.5.1 was previewing well a particular recent jazz album (Säje) https://music.apple.com/us/album/s%C3%A4je/1698400328. It's Apple's job to find the problem because it is a real pain for people like us using it as a tool!

This problem has been getting worse over the last few months with more and more tracks not working.

Some tracks will play and others won't even though they are on the same album.

iTunes/Apple spent over 1 hour on Live Chat and Live Screen access last week watching the problem and getting me to screen grab pictures of the problem on one track that would play and one track that would not play.

The diagnostic's part in iTunes was used and info sent along with the screen shots and all the info screen grabbed from the system specs I was using at the time. The problem happens on all 6 computers here at the radio station, so a waste of time that was.

I was told I would get a call back last Thursday 24th August 2023. The call was later than they stated. It was a call stating the person who was supposed to call cannot call me. It was now to happen on Friday (The next day)

THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. I sent a e mail & stated that after all the problems with iTunes over the last 9 months with their pathetic waiting time for a password reset, that was not needed that locked my account for 5 months,

because the staff kept giving me WRONG INFO every 30 days...

I stated I have purchased over 35,000 + tracks since 2008 on my accounts and will no longer use iTunes.

I removed all software (That's a pain to do as there are hidden files you have to snoop out in Windows itself that don't hoof it when using the correct removal procedure)

I have had it with Apple.

Apple rip-off customers in the 'Genius Bar' as exposed by News channels in the US and Australia. (Proof on YouTube) maybe the 'Genius' bit is that Apple rip-off the customer and they let them get away with it.

Apple were, on every call I have made to them, shocked that I DON'T OWN an Apple product.

I wonder why?

Apple products are: - OVER RATED, OVER PRICED and snoop big time.

You can get to live chat or get a call back from them but you have to go through so many hoops and circles to get to the page to get to them.

Apple...

Go AWAY and I hope all WINDOWS 10 / 11 and 12 users dump you until you learn to RESPECT YOUR CUSTOMERS be they Apple or Windows users.

I spent about it an hour online with support. She watched me try to preview songs on an album where some work but others didn’t. Pre-order and new release albums where none worked and older ones where they all worked. She said there have been many calls and she added this experience to the list.

I would have been willing to guess someone just isn’t turning the previews in- except I can preview songs on my phone and ipad that I can’t in my Macbook.

Same problem here. Itunes will preview some tracks but not others - does not seem to be any logic to what it will or will not play.

Have also have issues connecting to itunes store - hangs every other time i connect. (If I switch from the store back to my library and then try to return to the store, it hangs. Repeat click back to library then back to store and it connects fine. I can live with this as at least I have a solution. But not sure how long I can live with not being able to preview - could be my queue to try Spotify!

I think I'm finally giving up on iTunes. It sucks because I have thousands of songs after all these years, but this on top of the fact that it keeps randomly deleting songs I've bought, the stupid 2-step verification, and the worst customer service in the business...There are 4 people in our house, all with iPhones, iPads, Apple watches, and iTunes accounts, and I spent over 3 hours the other day just trying to talk to someone who could help me.

Like many others here I have had this for many years and literally thousands of dollars in downloads. Apple MUSIC? NEVER, based on the latest experiences I have had on my Mac. I can get previews working on my iPad and iPhone, as others have said. SO: Mac, the base platform, is the problem (just updated and still issues with this), right? Can't WAIT for the "event" 9/12/23...LOL.

I also cannot help but suspect that these issues are because they WANT people to move to Apple Music to make more money. ****, I'll go back to buying CD's or direct from the artists on their websites before that happens.

Clearly, this is a glitch that should not be difficult for Apple to correct. If a glitch of this sort would happen to Apple Music, it would be treated as emergency, and it would be sorted out in 24 hours.

The truth is Apple probably wants to phase out iTunes, hoping users switch to Apple Music. Based on my experience, however, I have twice subscribed to Apple Music and in both occasions, immediately gave up on it. It just doesn't work for me.

For the type of person who likes casual music streaming, they would not go for Apple Music, but instead Spotify. Apple needs to see that they lost that battle to Spotify. iTunes is/was Apple's strength, and they should invest on it. If anything, they should not just ditch it, and leave all its users across the globe abandoned.

I've also spent thousands throughout the last 15 years or so, and feel really let down. Again, it feels like we have been abandoned!

I guess I'm an anomaly because I want to own my music as I have for my entire life. I buy it, I own it, I play it wherever and whenever I want on whatever I want. Apparently, the trend is to "rent" everything now, calling it "subscribing"- word editors, photo editors, etc. Streamers can be good for discovery, like a radio station used to be. But when I like a song, I buy it. If iTunes doesn't fix its problems, I will buy elsewhere. And if that creates problems getting my music on my iPhone, then I will go back to Android. I had gone to Android in the first place because I was weary of the proprietary nature of Apple. Now that I'm back in an attempt to enjoy Apple and the iTunes-iPhone-Car Play ecosystem, that proprietary nature is again rearing its ugly head.

I like to buy my music too. Back when downloading first occurred - Walmart was in the mix, I can't even remember their platform, but I don't think iTunes was even around then. All that music gone! Now I buy, and save it to a hard drive so I don't have to buy again. This using Music to preview and then go put it on my iTunes wish list is a pain. Unlike others - I don't think this is a deliberate attempt to phase out iTunes, but I do wonder why they haven't put out any info on the issue - even something as simple as we are aware and are working on it.
