itunes preview not working on all songs

I like to preview new music on iTunes and about 2 weeks ago it started not previewing all songs. Some albums I can and some I can't. It's pretty frustrating. I am not subscribed to Music and I did go turn it off based on some other Q&As from last year. Didn't help. Has anyone else started experiencing this lately?

I initially thought this issue was probably related to my setup but entries on this discussion clear suggests to me it’s a widespread problem. I have the same issues with iTunes on Microsoft 10. I now firmly believe this is an engineered bug put in place by Apple to have us all migrate to subscription model. Why else would we not have seen action to fix these issues or at least an acknowledgment that the problem exists and they’re being worked on.

Got in touch with the support here in Belgium. They were suppose to contact me back following a chat were I did clearly explain our problem... No reply yet after 5 days!!! It funny to see why, today, some new albums are working fine and some others don't! I wonder if the encoding process ( Itunes Producer or Transporter) is not responsible for this problem! It would be nice to find out if there is a link between these facts... Just a thought!

well it's getting easier and easier for me to not buy apple products..I reported the problem on the apple site, I'll have to wait and see what happens. I have Apple Music, btw if you do drop them, (I did and was not prepared).....all your playlists will disappear even though its music you bought and paid for. The music will be there, you will just have to remake playlists, so be prepared and have back ups!

I have the same problem -- and it's unpredictable what songs will play on pre-orders and which ones won't, although lately for me it's been most of them that won't play. An Apple iTunes specialist three weeks ago said I may need to wipe my iMac and restore from a backup, which I'm reluctant to do. I had hoped that updating to Mac OS Sonoma today would fix it; it did not. My workaround at this point is to engage Siri on Imac to play pre-order songs (I am an Apple Music subscriber), but that is tedious. I share the speculation of some in this thread that Apple might not be taking it seriously because they want to push you to streaming. Or it may be that only a small subset of users has the problem.

Thanks for your update on Sonoma! It really helps. Like I did mention in a previous comment, some songs do not pose problem... I wonder what type of encoder do the labels work with ( Transporter or Itunes Producer) I'm am myself using Itunes Producer as a record label but have not upload anything for a long time. It would be nice for Apple to check if there is a connection between the encoders that are used and our problem of preview.

You are beyond me on that technical stuff, sadly— all I know is I’m in the habit of buying the songs I like, and one of the ways I decide what I like is to do previews of pre-order songs. And now, most of the time, I can’t do that without using Siri. It’s really bad. And I’m also having trouble syncing to IMac through Finder now, this is a new development for me.

No question that Apple is not investing in ITunes, it’s like an orphan without offspring.

I probably wouldn’t waste the time or effort doing that. No one else who called about it received that advice.

They have something set up in their system causing this issue. Maybe so Music subscribers get first dibs? Doesn’t stop you from actually buying, just not previewing beforehand, so that would be a silly thing to do.

I know someone monitors this because they deleted one of my post, but not someone who really went off on Apple in a reply to my post.

So you’d think that person(s) would pass the word they have a growing list of dissatisfied customers

I agree, this bug is designed to force us to subscribe to Apple Music. I prefer to also preview songs before I purchase them to ensure I am selecting the correct version. Well if you find a song with 20+ versions, I hope you can decide which one before you hit the bug. After so many previews iTunes store will cease playing them. It’s very annoying and I wish Apple would revert back to the way it was. I’m making a purchase, after all.
