Connection error to iCloud.com

Hi

I have a problem connecting my home laptop to iCloud - I have never had problems before. I have downloaded the latest version, windows is up-to-date, I have cleared cache and tried different browswers.

I have checked that my security software is not causing the problem (turned it off, checked, no problem) and I have added it as a trusted site to windows security.

However, when I restart my laptop, it allows me to sign in as normal, but if I log out and try log back in I get this error:

'Connection Error - iCloud encountered an error while trying to connect to the server'

The only options I have are support or OK.

If I restart my pc, then it works fine, unless I log out and log back in - in which case to access it I have to restart my computer again!

I have never had this issue before and I have had the same laptop and security software for years.

Very irritating.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

By the way, login works fine on my phone or work computer without any problems.

Hi there Silhouette17,

If you're having difficulty signing into iCloud on your Windows PC, you'll want to start by working through each step listed below to see if that resolves the issue for you:

Things to check first
Before you change your security software's setup:
* Make sure that the date, time, and time zone are set correctly on your computer. Learn how to update these settings on a Mac or on a PC
* Log in to an administrative user account, not a guest account. Learn how to do this on a PC
* Update to the latest version of iCloud for Windows or update to the latest version of iTunes.
* Make sure that you have the latest software on your Mac or on your PC.
* Make sure that you set up Windows Hello. Learn how to set it up
* Make sure that you only have one type of security software installed. If you have more than one type of security software installed, you might experience performance issues.

You'll find those suggestions here: Resolve issues between iCloud for Windows or iTunes and third-party security software - Apple Support

Also, we know you mentioned turning off your security software, but you may need to uninstall it to test the issue further.

Take care.

Silhouette17,

Thank you for those details. We were able to find this information from that same article:

Test your security software

If you still have trouble after you test your connectivity, your security software could be interfering with your computer's connection with iCloud for Windows or iTunes.
In some cases, it might be necessary to temporarily remove your security software to isolate an issue. Some Internet security apps don’t uninstall completely, so you might need to download and run a cleanup utility for your security software for it to be completely removed.
Work with your security software provider to allow the complete list of ports and services that Apple products use or if you need help with uninstalling their software.

If the issue persists, it may be best to reach out to Apple directly.

You can do so by going to Get Support

They will take a closer look and check on available options.

Cheers!

Hi Sparks0829

Thanks for the prompt response.

I had already done all of the things you suggested except uninstalling the security software. I have now done that and the icloud sign in screen came up (which it hadn't before) and I signed in, but as soon as I authenticated my username, password and 2FA, the same error appeared and I couldn't move forward again.

Any other thoughts?

Cheers,
