Disappeared emails from inbox (iCloud mail)

Hello community,

I opened the mail app (using iCloud mail) on my iPhone 13 (iOS 16.6) and MacBook Air (macOS Ventura 13.4) this morning and surprised with the fact that all my emails in the inbox were disappeared and only showed some 15 recent ones.

I've tried all the following tips but none of them works:

  • Quit the Mail app, and restart the iPhone and MacBook
  • Go to Settings > ***** > iCloud, then turned Mail off. Waited few seconds and turned it back on
  • Uninstall the Mail app and reinstalled it

Has anyone please experienced this and how can I resolve that issue?

Thank you in advance.

I called apple support and they mostly resolved the issue. Not something I could have fixed on my own, they had to restore the emails that disappeared somehow. It didn’t completely fix it, for some reason a chunk didn’t re appear in my inbox, however when I search for those emails they show up so it’s fine. Call support 👍🏻

Might you have a grouping option in mail activated which combines mail threads and only shows the latest entry ? Or a filter which only shows unread or something? It sounds silly but I had an issue like this a while back and learned the thread grouping was really confusing to find mails back. If you do a search on some words on the mails you are missing, do they also not show up in the mail search result?

Same issue this week on both my Macbook Pro and iPhone 14 Pro. After speaking with Apple support realized that the incomplete/limited email inbox issue actually originates in the MAIL HOST/SERVER, not with Apple device. When I logged in natively to both my Yahoo and Gmail email accounts I see that they, too, are showing limited emails in the inbox. Gonna contact Yahoo and Google now.

Hello tygb,

Thanks for your response.

  • The app is working by receiving the new email (just tried through a test one)
  • The storage is not full and was/is at less than 50 GB out of 200 GB (iCloud+)
  • All the other mentioned tips were checked and the app works well except finding my emails :(

For you info, I am using an @icloud.com email address!

Any other tips please?

Thank you in advance.

Hey I found out it was because I’m out of storage, I know for a fact there is a lot of emails I was supposed to receive during the time it was out. How can I access them? I got a new phone during the time it was full. I can’t access any of my mail, old or new. What do I do? I really need those emails for a lot of things right now.
