Increase of junk in iCloud email

I find spam hits my Apple email addresses in waves. Nothing for a few weeks then a sudden deluge. As soon as it comes in, I forward the emails to abuse@icloud.com and, where appropriate, report@phishing.gov.uk. That seems to kill it off after a day or so. Not sure why Apple can’t filter it out consistently though…
I don't use Mail, but I am suddenly getting a lot of Messages spam targeting many numbers and addresses. I notice that they are coming from email addresses via Messages, rather than a phone number. I am reporting and blocking, but they keep coming. I wonder what just changed, as I had never seen this before.
Totally agree with this. I’ve had an iCloud email account for many years which has largely been spam free. This year, however, I’ve been hit with large waves of spam email - most of which is obviously spam. Why Apple, in the era of ChatGPT and AI, seems incapable of filtering out this rubbish is completely beyond me.
