How to Know When iPhone 8 Stops Receiving iOS Updates?

When will I stop receiving system and security updates? I saw something speculating on fall 2023. Is this correct?

The iPhone 8 will not get any major version updates beyond ios 16. It is not compatible with ios 17, due to be released this fall.

It will undoubtedly get minor updates and security patches for a year or so, just as ios 15 is still receiving security updates today.

My Concern is about Installing Apps, Is it worth to buy an iPhone 8 Plus in 2024?, Will I be able to Install and Run the Apps through Appstore?, Because by fare 8 and 8 Plus will be running IOS 16.

The 8 is discontinued. You would be buying a used phone at best.

I can't recommend buying used at all. There are too many risks involved, never mind the fact that you'd be buying a device that would be unsupported in a very short time.

If you need an inexpensive phone, buy an iPhone SE.

I wonder if I should upgrade to a 13 mini or wait for SE 4 (if ever it comes out)

or just use a galaxy phone

Buy whatever phone you think suits your needs the most. Whether that is iPhone, Samsung, Google or anything else is up to you. But keep in mind, any phone you buy from ANY manufacturer will one day become too old to be updated. If longevity is important to you, buy the most current model you can afford, with the most memory you can afford.

Keep in mind that iPhone 13 Mini was released in 2021 and discontinued in 2023. Apple no longer sells this model, so you'd most assuredly have to buy a used iPhone 13 Mini if that is the model you want. If you do buy a used iPhone, please read this --> https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250001038

Honoured to be part of this eco system since 2013, a returning member who left in 2016 and rejoined in May 2024… I have got an iPhone 8 and iPhone 15 Pro… Both are perfectly synchronised and 8 is working flawlessly… Guess you need to upgrade but that doesn’t mean 8 became useless, no… Even people i have seen have synched their older iPhone 5 or 6 with newest models so yeah, not a bad choice… 8 is a good one

There’s a difference between Minor updates, containing bug fixes and security fixes, and Rapid Response updates.

Minor updates come out occasionally, with no set schedule, and usually contain fixes for minor security vulnerabilities, and major bugs.

Rapid Response updates come out rarely, also with no set schedule, and contain fixes for major security vulnerabilities that can’t wait until a typical minor update. These are incredibly small updates, usually installing within 5 minutes, if even. I, on my iPhone 11, have only gotten 2 rapid responses. Those were shortly after they introduced the system, so it likely was a set of tests to ensure the system was in working order.

So, you not getting rapid responses is a good thing. Hopefully you won’t get any. With minor updates, don’t expect anything major. iOS 16 is basically going to just get security fixes from here on out.
