It's a shame that I can no longer come to this thread to get updates and real solid information about what people are experiencing, what's worked for them, what hasn't, what they're hearing from Apple, or not hearing, etc. That's what this forum is supposed to be about, right? Support?

I don't understand why you all don't totally ignore the posts from those who are getting off on monopolizing the thread. Without their 'attention fix" they'd probably go away, don't you think?

I would love also to see the solutions and some ideas how it can be fixed and how does it work for some . But all we get is push the home button , hold the phone above your ear , it is better but still not as it suppose to be and other similar recomendations.
Unfortunately there are no fix , solution or steady and proved way to work around the issue.

So I at the certain moment unfortunately switched to be a broken record advising not to become a victims of the fraud and baseless promises and other fantasies.

If I may compare it is like being a doctor who does not know how to treat the desease but warn people to use methods making more harm than good.

If anybody realy would find a solution or report how it is fix it would be great.

Michael, nobody in their right mind believes you have a job or are capable of conducting any business. You don't know what Apple knows or what Apple doesn't know. You don't have the capability to know. Even if you did you don't have the language skills to interpret any communication available.

Like your questioning what a developer is. Yes if pay the fee and have access to the developer tools you are a developer. Likewise if you do not then you are not.

Lets say you have a yellow shirt on. Another foreigner has a green shirt on. You are somewhere where they are only letting people with green shirts pass. Your yellow shirt may be just as good as his green shirt but that does not make it green. It also does not make you an expert on shirts or understanding the rules.

Anyways I saw a post yesterday on another sub-forum about an app called "Call Guard". I downloaded the app yesterday and have tested it on thousands of phones. Well OK I tested it on one phone, mine. It works as advertised and you won't be hitting other buttons with your face. You are able to use the phone on your shoulder. It does require starting the app when you answer a call. It seems a small price to pay until Apple gets their fix out. Oh speaking of price the app is free.

I am sorry but I respectfully disagree with your point who is a developer.
Technically you are correct Apple consider Anybody who paid $100 is a developer. But I hope we both would not trust an elementary school student ( I know my english is even worse than elementary school ) who had a chance to get $100 from his parents and now has access to Developer SDK.

Let's try not to talk about my business it is really not important. But I do run it and I am one of the best in my industry. Still does not mean I am a better man.
I know , and you are correct , my English can be better. But as you see I can understand your points and you understand mine. The only thing you can not believe that I may possibly know something you somehow do not know or may be do not want to know.
It is a pretty long philosophical discussion about the degree of knowledge. Since you brought your "Shirt Color " example up I would allow to explain it my way.
If you at a late night time see your girlfriend comes out from the Motel with another man being a little drunk. What is It ? Did you see anything else by your own eyes ? But can we say you have a pretty good knowledge about what she was doing in that Motel ?
Meaning it is never 100 % degree of the knowledge but it is a degree of certainty. Saying I know what Apple knows and meaning someone from Apple told me that is of course wrong. But do I think I do know from the facts , timetable and development of the issue what Apple knows ? My answer is yes , I do know with the dominating certainty that I got the picture and I can say I do understand what is going on and what Apple knows already.

About the " Call Guard" . It is another joke. Reading from the manual:
"Once on The call , Start the Call Guard " It is similar to pushing the home button. I hope you are not serious about this. But will not call you names and tell you what you missing if you can recomend such solutions. .
But you like it because it is free ? Like free bumper .

If you still did not understand My English let me know and i will rephrase it for you.

Well, here's a simple solution to your broken record routine:

One a day, repeat what you written many times before - but only once a day. Same for everyone else doing the broken record routine.

It will be seen by everyone reading the thread which, if try to help people, you only need once a day to reach any new people. It will cut down on the annoyance factor for everyone else, reading the same thing over and over each day AND, it would greatly reduce the number of posts each day to wade through.

A win-win solution!

No, no, they don't need to stop or slow down. Really, I would rather read all this fodder than watch The Young and the Restless. Also, the more each side spouts off the more Crow that side will have to eat. Seriously, this has gotten so viral it's taken on a life of it's own. You know when dogs get frustrated they start chewing at carpet and chasing their tails. Well, this is how this thread is playing out. What needs to happen are wagers from the big talkers like ME, etc. so when fix or no fix comes one camp will have to kiss a pig and post to YouTube or something else that's as embarrassing for losing the bet.

LOL......I don't even have the PS issue, but this thread is almost like crack (not that I really have ever tried it), but I can't stop tuning in and reading (and yes even posting) when someone like ME spouts off the same thing over and over and over and over.......

@mbassoc2003; You are wrong on so many levels. Too numerous to mention.

Well, if that's the case, why don't you start providing an explanation and the data you ae basing it upon. The we can all discus it. It may help to get the forum back on track.

At the moment, saying someone is wrong and not elaborating indicates that you are frustrated and confused and not able to explain your point of view. We should start by finding out if you have the PS issue, or do not have the PS issue. The desperation in your response would indicate that you do. Have you had your handset replaced? How many times?

Incidentally, I'd suggest anyone with the PS issue should go through the return and replace route. It will do two things... It will confirm to you that you will find the PS issue in all handsets, and it will increase the recorded incidents in the big secret Apple database.

Let's see if vatkins has the balls and the backbone to repost more coherently.

<rant> i came in here to read about a topic hoping somebody has an idea concerning it. what have i found? a thread with most people actually trying to help others but also two idiots who know absolutely nothing but try to pass themselves off as people who have knowledge on the subject. why monopolize a thread when all you do is showcase your complete ignorance? <end/rant>

now, back to the subject at hand .............

Exactly,
I tried to post earlier, but it seems to be missing. Anyway I'll try to remember what I said.

I'd suggested that we all post our experiences about the proximity sensor issue whether they're good or bad and what people have done to their iPhone 4 in terms of protecting it. Thanks to anyone who has posted something to try to get this discussion back on track.

For example if someone posts "my cheek keeps activating the screen and I have my iPhone in an Otterbox Defender case" and someone else posts something like "I've got my iPhone completely naked - no screen protector, nothing and I don't seem to have the issue with the sensor" and someone else said that they used only a screen protector from manufacturer Y with the issue, then we may be able to get a feel for if certain ways of protecting the phone are contributing to the problem.

Now I don't expect a company to start producing prosthetic ears that are advertised as being ideal for using your iPhone properly (iEars), as thta's just silly. But if certain screen protectors are diffusing the sensor's range/effectiveness then we all need to know about it so we can avoid them. I'd imagine (just a thought) that some screen protectors may be thick enough etc that they'd have a similar effect to shining a flashlight through a misted up window...the light will diffuse and be less effective. Perhaps specifically those that seem to subdue the colours on the screen when applied.

I'm not saying the sensor issue is hardware and I'm not saying it's not, but if we can compile the real world test results here, then that can only help fix the problem in the long run. Maybe the next software patch could adjust the sensor's gain, or as I've said before add a slider to unlock feature when the phone app is being used.

Still waiting to get a good screen protector for my iPhone 4 before I use it regularly, so I will post my findings with what protection I end up using when I have them.
