new tab button no longer works in Google

I have an iPad Pro (4th generation) running iPad OS 16.6. I open the Google app and I can view all the tabs I previously opened. However, when I press the “+ New Tab” button, instead of a new search window opening up, nothing happens.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior, and if so, how did you fix it?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If an App is not behaving as expected, deletion of the offending App - prior to performing a restart of your iPad - is recommended:

Delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Force restart iPad - Apple Support

After restarting the iPad, you can re-install the App from the Apple App Store.

If you are experiencing an issue with a Google App - and the problem persists - you might be best advised to seek assistance from Google's support pages.

Instead of deleting the Google App, you can try "offloading" instead. Offloading an App deletes just the App itself, but preserves the associated App data.

You can offload an App from iPad settings:

Settings > General > iPad Storage >

Identify the target App from the list of installed Apps, tap and select Offload App. Next, restart your iPad as previously described - and then re-install the Google App.

Hello pacific77,

If an app isn't working as expected on your iPad, we would recommend taking these related steps for a solution: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

If an app on your iPhone or iPad doesn't work as expected, try this.

1. Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2. Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3. Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4. Delete the app, then redownload it
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

Get more help

* If the App Store itself is not responding, contact Apple Support for your iPhone or for your iPad.

* If you found the app on the App Store, contact the app developer. If the app is made by Apple or came with your iPhone or iPad, contact Apple Support for your iPhone or for your iPad.

* If you bought the app recently and you no longer want it, you can also request a refund.

As mentioned as the last step, if the issue is unresolved, then it would be best to contact the app developer: Google Help Or using: How to contact an app developer They would need to take it from here.

Take care.
