Iphone XS Max recall/class action suit.

I have an iPhone XS Max (model MT5Y2LL/A) that might be having the same issue. After a standard iOS update in April 2023, the display would only show an Apple logo while the device turned on, but was otherwise black. It still receives touch input, however, and the screen can be viewed using QuickTime on a Mac or another external display.

I tried replacing the screen at an Apple Store, but that did not fix the issue. They said it was an issue with the motherboard and wouldn't help me because it was out of warranty.

I took it to a third-party repair shop, and they said the NAN memory needed to be reprogrammed, but they didn't have the necessary machine.

I tried a second third-party repair shop, and they said that the software update was incompatible with one of the chips in the device, and it could no longer communicate with the other components. They said this can happen sometimes for only a subset of devices sold, because Apple might contract with multiple manufacturers for any given component. They said it wasn't worth the cost of a repair, and that Apple should be responsible for fixing it. They recommended I search for relevant recalls (which brought me to this thread) or try to talk to a senior Genius at an Apple Store for either a replacement or device credit (which I haven't tried yet... that would be my third or fourth attempt to get Apple to fix the device).

I wish I had a solution, but I thought a comment might be helpful in case anyone else has this issue in the future!

FYI: The XS Max was discontinued 4 years ago. There is no way you purchased a “New” XS Max 2 years ago.

Then you either bought a refurbished device or very very old stock.

That model was discontinued by Apple in September of 2019.

It was offered by as a At&t promotion through Walmart.

And, if the phones really were "new", they all sat in a warehouse somewhere for years.
