Airpod Pros won't connect to Macbook Pro

I am having trouble connecting my brand new Airpod Pros to my Macbook Pro (Version 11.7.4). My Airpods connect to my iPhone 12 just fine, but my Macbook never seems to be able to connect to anything with Bluetooth, even other speakers. It is showing up in my devies, but it only connects when both of my Airpods are in the case, and then when I put them on, they disconnect automatically. Or in the rare moments that they do connect, it only plays the sound for like a second and then there is no sound, or the sound is extremely choppy and then it cuts out, even though they are "connected." What is the problem, and how can I fix this?

I would not have thought it necessary, but try updating your Mac: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support. Version 11.7.4 is quite outdated. 11.7.10 was released either today or yesterday.

If your AirPods won't connect - Apple Support has some additional troubleshooting information, which includes updating macOS.

You might also try resetting your Mac's Bluetooth module, which is not addressed in that Support document or any other that I'm aware of. To do that hold both an option and a shift key down while selecting the Bluetooth icon in the Mac's menu bar. Reset the Bluetooth module will appear. Try that, with the understanding that you will need to pair any previously paired devices again.

Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference - Apple Support might be worth reviewing.

Make sure the AirPods are fully charged.

If that doesn't work I'm out of ideas.
