Lockdown Firewall/VPN app Super high data usage

I was doing some research for an app to block trackers and other devious things that come with everyday network traffic and had learned about the Lookout app. It seemed to be a good one since it was developed by an Apple developer and therefore with that being the case I felt that it would be better than trusting an app developed by who knows who.

I downloaded this app only a day ago and configured it to work properly or the way that I wanted it to and being that it’s a firewall and also a vpn, my thoughts were that it’s safe, and I still believe it is. Something I can’t understand has happened however and I believe it is very unusual. Since installing Lockdown only a little over a day ago, it is showing under the “cellular data” section in settings that it has used 131 GB of data! Last night at about 3 am before I went to bed and set the phone down to charge it was at 62.8 GB of data usage. This means that in less than 8 hours, when I got up at 8 am, it filtered another 69 GB of network traffic??? Prior to this phone which is brand new along with a new phone number since I believed my last phone to have been compromised due to all sorts of weird photos and videos being put in my photo albums, I found appverse.me and I am no app developer, and a whole slew of other things I decided to get some security keys from yubico and a new phone with number.

I have not done any backups since installing Lookout day ago, not streamed any video or music. I have never used even 20 GB in a whole month let alone 161 GB in a single day. Can anyone give any ideas as to what is going on? At this rate it won’t be long before my data gets throttled if it hasn’t happened already. Please help!
