After last update to Ventura 13.5.2 I can not longer my DVD/CD Drive. I have tried different USB C ports, Reboot and did a Shut down then restart. when I put a DVD into the drive it acts normal but still can't see it.
I out of ideas.

Along with the "CDs, DVDs, and iPods" setting in the General Tab, do you also have the "External Disks" option checked?
Also, does the disk show up in the Sidebar of the Finder Window when both the "External Disks" and "CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices" options are checked at Finder > Settings > Sidebar?
Is it only when you insert a DVD that the drive does not show, what happens when you insert a CD?
Does starting in Safe Mode make a difference?

Other than that, I would try another USB cable or maybe the drive is drawing too much power from the USB port. Do you have your MacBook plugged into power? There have been other users posting about the same problem in other forums with one user stating the using a powered USB hub solved the problem for him, but not sure if that would be the same for you.

That's for your help, long store short my DVD drive die. Had another drive in storage dug it out and it worked right away. You did help with starting up in safe mode. :)
Have you verified that setting to show the DVD on the Desktop is turned on at: Finder > Settings > General?
Not much has changed on the DVD side of things with the OS. There are really only a couple of settings you would have, so not sure which setting you recently found. The first setting is to show the DVD on your Desktop and the other gives you the option to Autoplay the DVD when inserted. The original poster found their drive to be damaged, so it had nothing to do with the settings. Not sure if you are experiencing the same situation. All the Finder setup setting are checked marked, even tried unchecking, exit finder, reopen finder and enable did not work. Also forgot to tell everyone, that the toolbar across the top has a icon, but says "No Drives"
I found this setting finally. It does nothing. The disc drive spins, but nothing is found it all used to be plug & play, but that's moot. I don't understand why it is no longer plug & play and why I have to jump through hoops to play a simple music DVD
