Using Safari drop down menu

When I go to the Safari drop down menu in tools I no longer get the preferences option. The item in the list is in extension. This began happening when I installed DuckDuckGo for a browser. I finally deleted that and got google back as my browser. But when I go to Safari preferences still does not appear.

I'm confused.

  1. To change Safari's Search Engine, read Change Search settings in Safari on Mac - Apple Support.
  2. Extensions are not a factor.
  3. DuckDuckGo is a Search Engine as well as a separate browser app.
  4. Google is not a browser, but it is a Search Engine. Google's browser app is called Chrome, but you cannot install Chrome without having Google take over your Mac.

More information would help.

I was able to get rid of the "Duck". It was messing up some my sites that are relatively safe sites, causing freezing and not even allowing me to open some some other data on my desktop. Even though I may not have used all of the correct terminology when I initially posted, I believe I was expressing my self somewhat clearly. My latest concern is that when I am in Safari I used to click on the the tab under Safari and the first listing was "preferences." It is no longer there. In fact when I dropped down from the Apple logo I used to see a choice for preferences, but it is no longer there either. Maybe the programs have changed. But very often when I have been looking for an algorithm I would directed to go to preferences. What has changed.
