Change Instagram notification sound on iPhone

The default notification tone has changed in iOS 17.

It was Tri-tone since the iPhone was originally introduced, and now it's Rebound.

"Default" means if an app didn't assign its custom tone for its own notifications or gives no option to change it inside the app, the default iOS tone will be used.

So it's not Text Tone from Settings > Sounds &Haptics nor anyone else from there.

Some examples:

WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal — all they give a choice;

Instagram, Facebook and most others — not.

The new Rebound tone is significantly quieter, many people are not happy with it.

It is/was no way to change it. Now live with it.

P.S.: It's funny, the Health app still notifies me with tri-tone.

That's correct. Instagram chose the notification tone and it is not usable selectable. This has nothing to do with Apple as Apple doesn't own Instagram. Over the years many have complained about the Instagram notification tone. But the complaints are misdirected and need to be directed to Instagram itself.

Many third-party apps do not have this option. And, it's entirely up to the developers of the app to provide it. Apple cannot rewrite Meta apps. Only Meta can do that.

The issue is when it updated to iOS 17 Apple made it change the default notification sound from Tri tone to whatever the heck the new sound is I call it a plop you can barely hear it it’s on every single non-apple app meaning WeatherBug, security camera apps, Facebook, Instagram, etc. it’s not the applications issue it’s Apple issue they need to change it back to the default that it used to before the update. So everybody needs to be contacting Apple, and not the other applications. It’s Apple’s fault! And there is no way to change it and you can have your volume all the way up and you still don’t hear it!

You'll have to ask Apple or Instagram that. Instagram has never offered an option to change the sound on the their app. Whether they worked with Apple on the sound or not, we are all users here on this user to user only forum and we don't work for Apple, nor Meta (the parent company of Instagram).

People often remember things that never existed previously. There's NEVER been a way to change the sound for Instagram.

How? This has nothing to do with Apple.

It is completely Apple's responsibility.

Because Apple doesn't own Instagram but this problem is not only limited to Instagram but also Twitter, Snapchat, and all other apps.

Apple changed the default tone for all apps and all these apps don't have the option to change the notification sound. All these apps just uses sound provided by Apple.

New sounds provided by Apple to these apps is very quick and quiter, which making it harder to hear in noisy environments. It can be heard only if you are sitting in Air conditioned room, even noice coming from fan making it difficult to hear.

And not everyone have such silent homes to leave. So stop being biased towards apple and accept that it's Apple's responsibility to change the default sound.

Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Scroll down and tap on Sounds & Haptics.

Under the Sounds and Vibration Patterns section, tap on Text Tone.

You can now choose a new sound notification from the options provided.

Once you’ve changed the setting, your Instagram notification sound will update immediately. Hope this helps!

Apps have the capability to set their own notification sounds instead of using the system defaults. Check the settings for the app itself.

I wouldn't have been very hard to read the responses in this thread, including my response just above yours. If you are referring to Instagram, Apple can't fix anything. Apple doesn't own Instagram and if you don't like the notification sound, you need to express your opinion to them.

Maybe it does have something to do with the new IOS 17 cause I had this issue when my iPhone was running on IOS 17 beta. Then I downgraded it back to IOS 16 and somehow the issue was fixed. Last night I updated my IOS back to 17 and here it is again, the same beep type of sound that's barely audible from a.distance, most of my Instagram notifications go unnoticed

If you read the thread, you'll see that Apple doesn't own Instagram. Only Instagram can change the sound of their notifications. But since you want to tell Apple what they need to do, you haven't done that here. This is a user to user only forum. Apple isn't here, nor reading these posts.

I understand what you’re saying. However I don’t think you’re understanding us. The sound is not just from Instagram notifs. For me it’s also from TikTok and Snapchat. And it happened when we updated. I’ve seen it being talked about as a bug. It’s really annoying and stupid- it’s the sound of hanging up a call.
