Final Cut Pro Folders creation

I have been a user of FCPX for quite sometime. How can one create folders in the finder for footage/asstes and then have that same templated folder structure appear or be opened in FCPX. I have been told this is possible. I currently create folders and keywords after creating a new library. I am aware I can create a templated library with the folders and keywords created inside of the library but I am told you can create folders subfolders and fill them with footage/assets in the finder then import that main folder or open it somehow in FCPX.

Is this true? I tried it but I can only get the folders to import as a long list of keywords and no sub folders. Searched and searched YouTube but no luck finding this instruction. Help! Lol.

is there instruction for this?

I am using this structure for wedding films. Need folders to be : Getting ready, First look, Ceremony, etc.

Also need separate folders for 3 different camera footage.

Folders imported into FCP become keyword collections. They don't remain folders. There are no sub keyword collections, i.e. keyword collections inside keyword collections.

Folders in FCP are only used to group keyword collections. You can have folders of keyword collections inside other folders, but you can't generate them from the Finder. All the content on the Finder folders will be changed to separare keyword collections. Once that's done you can organize them into folders if you wish.

I don’t understand the part where you needed to create a folder first.

You should be able to drag a folder from the Finder onto an event and import. Make sure that FCP has Full Disk Access (it probably already does but if not it’s possible that it is causing the problem).

As for the last part, I told you as much. You can only have folders of collections, not folders of clips. Unless there are many layers of enclosed folders, it is very easy to reconstruct the hierarchy using the keyword collections just created.

What are you dragging to where? Could you post some screenshots?

Are you dragging folders to FCP?

What are the contents of these folders? If drag empty folders, or folders that do not contain usable media files (video, photos, or audio), then you should get that "None of the selected files..."

What happens if you press Command-I in FCP (or File->Import->Media) and select the top folder that you want and click Import?

I really don't understand why the folder dragging would not work. It's a direct function for creating keywords. You can drive onto the event icon or even into the event browser pane if the event is selected. If you have leave in place set as the import behavior you should see a hooked arrow. The only thing I can think that would prevent it is if the media is contained in camera folder structures. That may not work.

All good valid points. I drag and drop text all day long with Final Cut Pro so I am aware of how to get audio/video/and pics with a drag and drop. However when trying to do this with a folder from the desktop irt will not drop, Thats what produces the error message. THe same message if I try to use the magic keys for import or if I go to the import in FCPX and try it from there. it will allow me to select it but I then get this error message. I have tried it with empty folders and folders with files. They will not drop or import. It just doesn't seem right.

However, I can drag and drop anything that is in the folders. THe problem has something to do with the folders but I am going crazy with this tying to understand What I might be doing wrong.

The Folder is just randomly on desktop or a separate archived drive. I was trying to drag the folders with appropriate media into the library and or Event and it won't go. However if I create a FOLDER IN FCPX in an event I can then do so but...... THe file structure of folders all just go to keywords sub folders. I was under the impression they would keep their folder sub folder structure upon dragging. I can drag to a folder I created in FCPX but again it falls apart. Thanks for the info. If you have any tutorials about this I would greatly appreciate it. I can't find any. And maybe because it does not exist....
