Custom tones dissapeared after iOS 17 update

Has anyone noticed that after the update to IOS 17, the ability to have custom text or notification tones have disappeared?

I am not bothered about the stock tones by Apple, and loved having the option to have custom tones. This seems a step backwards for users

Yes, me too. My painstakingly hand made ringtones are still available to assign as ringtones, but not as text tones.
With the contacts who had previously been assigned custom text tones I still have the option to select the custom ones (haven’t tried to change one yet because I don’t want to lose the option) but if a contact does not currently have a custom text tone assigned the only options are the Apple ones.

You need to update to iOS 17.1. The problem ha been resolved.

I was very happy with the Star Trek Communicator chirp as notification of a new text message. What a bunch of controlling jerks the iPhone techs are! Will they refund all the people who have paid for text notifications? I was on my way to buy an iPhone 16. Not now! I hope they fix this very quickly as I do not like Android....... But I will change!

I just want my old chirp back!

My bad, I was agreeing with you that you should not downgrade.

Except in certain very specific circumstances or, in the event you do things to your phone that remove all the protections Apple has in place, you can't downgrade.

also it’s really annoying how I have to wait like 5 minutes every time I say something do you know a way around that.

This is me typing while I wait to be able to respond to you

please help me not have to wait 10h every time I say something

I'm afraid I can't help you with your typing. Mine is bad enough.

Maybe I am not stating my problem well. What I want is to be able to give a different text tone to some specific incoming notifications to a company whose account number is unknown but gives me notifications of any transaction in my business with them

Your problem is perfectly clear. But, unless the specific app allows you to change the notification tone, you can't. If the app allows you to do that, it would be within the app in the app settings. I don't know how to state that more clearly.

The ONLY way you could do this would be to know the numbers sending you messages, then save them as a contact and then assign a text tone to that number. Coming from an institution, which most assuredly sends messages from multiple numbers, this would be virtually impossible to do.

No it wasn't on the description of changes with the update. I'm working on something but when I post it here they remove it. For the time being I'm using an iphone 7 that they wouldn't let update anyway but the issue with that is they killed the battery so the only real solution is to buy an android. After the new year that's my plan, I'm sick of them doing whatever they please with my settings.

No!!. This is what I’m saying. Notice under the text tones I USED to be able to
also set a text tone FROM the ring tone options. So in this screenshot I USED to be able to select Apex(Ringtone) as a text sound!!! Does anybody in this discussion understand what I’m saying??? THIS no longer shows up as an option and needs to be fixed ASAP!!!!

I don't believe I have answered a question from you before. I have been answering the question about what happened to custom text tones in this thread.

I refuse to pay for a text tone that was previously part of my Iphone, which was a recent purchase. I am partially deaf and I had text tone set up for tone I could hear well. After upgrade, I had to choose one that I don't like and I have difficulty hearing it. This really sucks. I called Apple and they helped me at least get my sounds back on, but still can't change text tones. Ring tones seem to be ok, but not great.
