Hi I updated to iOS 17 yesterday and my wallpapers are getting blurred on the top, my wallpapers from the top seem to be fine yet but I found beautiful new wallpapers and it’s ruined because of the top blur. My phone is an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Figured out how to fix it on my IPhone 11. Go to settings, then Wallpaper, then do New Wallpaper…it lets you pick a photo for the wallpaper…then you can click over on the Home Screen and change it if you want. But at the very bottom right hand corner you should see a raindrop looking image that says “blur”. If you click that it removes the blur from the image.
Simple solution. Don’t make your wallpaper from a photo in your pictures file until you do this.
1) Find the photo you want
2) Adjust it to size and position you want.
3) Screen cap the picture.
4) No set it as wallpaper.
**If you try and adjust it again the same thing will happen so you need to pre adjust it prior to setting it as wallpaper.**
Open the photo
Tap Edit
Tap Crop
Tap the box above with multiple boxes in it
Choose Wallpaper, which will save the photo in a format appropriate for wallpaper
Tap done to save it
This will let you use the wallpaper without the blur, as long as you don't try to expand it.
You might’ve already done this, but just in case: Follow those same steps to create a wallpaper cropped duplicate, but instead of leaving and going into settings, go into the share options for the photo and do ‘use as wallpaper’. That worked for me. The blur is gone.
Something odd I just discovered: When I press-hold my lock screen, and scroll through my past wallpapers, anything that wasn’t blurred to begin with still isn’t blurred if I use it now. Not sure why that is? I’m certainly not complaining. Thought it might be worth sharing.
So cropping the photo does work!!! Try that and there is no blur. I cropped it as wallpaper and it fixed the problem.
All you do is take a screen shot of your picture and then use that picture, the Apple way with the three dots doesn’t work, neither does the duplicate- I’m looking right at it no blurr.
Yea i have the same problem but figured out that if u take a screenshot and put the same photo it doesn’t do it but dam its kinda stupid idk what they were thinking
hey, i was having the same issue. but if you go into a drawing app, add in the image, and then add like a thick border of color around the image, you’ll be able to freely zoom out without any issue! hope this helps :)
Hey! I hate this issue so much but the best fix i have found is to use the crop feature inbuilt to photos and resize the image to “wallpaper”, then use that as wallpaper and pinch to zoom out. The top will blur, but when you let go it will fling back perfectly centred with no top blur. Hope this helpsss

They told me to click on iPhone and then fill in the info, however under the software dropdown, IOS 17 isn't listed yet so I was told to include IOS 17 in the Feedback that I provide regarding the blurred pictures.
That fix worked before- but with the new update no.
When you zoom out for a photo to fit as a wallpaper it automatically is blurred on the top half. Even if the blur button on the right is unchecked.
i think this is a design flaw many won’t like.

Tell Apple:
If you simply save any picture you want to use as Wallpaper on your iPhone and then don't resize it, it won't blur.
Open any photo you want.
Tap Edit
Tap Crop
Tap the box with boxes in a box at the top
Below will be the format you want to save the photo
Choose Wallpaper
Tap Done
Then you can use without worrying about a blur.
The blur issue was driving me crazy also. I wanted to put the photograph on my lock screen because with all the apps/folders on my home screen, I can’t really see the picture anyway. I googled it and came across this website. It helped me big time. https://www.macobserver.com/tips/how-to/fix-blurry-iphone-home-screen/. I have Focus (aka Do Not Disturb) set up on my phone. When I turned it off, the picture showed up on my lock screen. Check out the website and see if it helps! PS- it seems like when I tried to crop the picture to get it down further on the screen is when the top part blurred. I have an iPhone XR.
One fix that i use is just to screenshot the image you want, that way it'll resize it, sometimes it'll still blur but u just barely have to zoom in and it goes away.
All you have to do is take a screen shot of your picture and it will work just fine.
