Hi I updated to iOS 17 yesterday and my wallpapers are getting blurred on the top, my wallpapers from the top seem to be fine yet but I found beautiful new wallpapers and it’s ruined because of the top blur. My phone is an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Just got done messaging with IT from Apple, this is a new “feature” in iOS 17 and this is how it goes, if you zoom out or try to make it look the way you want it to, the image will blur, if you zoom in, it unblurs. As of now he said, there is no known fix to this other than having a wallpaper that perfectly fits the format for the specific iPhone you are using. He said Apple did this to provide a cleaner look in general to the time battery indicator etc. Idk if this is true or not, but knowing Apple, this is most likely the reason.
So, if you want a perfect fit when finding a wallpaper for your iPhone, I recommend what has worked for me so far after this nonsense of a “feature” has been added, this link shows all of the pixel sizes etc for each iPhone up to the 14 Pro Max. Screenshot the image you want to use as a wallpaper and use the screenshot. I believe it’s a resolution issue when you download an image
if you just make your picture taller and crop out the extra bit apple wont do that
This might be an issue if the picture is old I took a screen shot and then the photo is fine.
What I found that fixes it, is that when you go to edit the photo in the photo app you can choose to crop it to a wallpaper size.
An easier one is to just take a screen shot and use that one, works every time.
It was introduced with iOS 17 for me, the first update gave me the bug. It's supposed to be a feature that blends the wallpaper to the top of the screen, instead it cuts off half of my photos for absolutely no reason. I have opened a case with Apple on the matter as well. But more people need to do the same to make them aware of it.

I just had the same issue, but i think i may know why this is. the wallpapers i had before updating never really fit to scale for wallpaper, so i could never zoom out to fit the whole thing, i think they somehow added a bit imaginative space to fill out what needs be to make it fit to scale when zoomed out to most, if you get what i mean. i also notice that if they are faces (or if can be recognised as such) they wont actually get blurred.
This discussion is user to user only. You have to go make the complaint to Apple's own report a problem. They don't use this as a complaint center unfortunately. I will say however, reading your thoughts on the matter, why not simply allow the time and all to go the opposite color of the background? I've seen the text change colors when I open arm app from black to white, so what's the difference?

Ok so after reading this blog having had it happen to me as well I have found a solution but it takes a little work. So I have the picsart app. When I take my background picture and put it into a collage on picsart which basically makes the top parta big black chuck I then take that to try and make it a wall paper. The Ipad then only focuses on the picture and somehow it works. Now if I turn the Ipad to a book like position it shows the black section. But sense my Ipad stays in like Laptop mode with a keyboard this is not a problem.

if you check the apple’s editing tool for images, you will find a new format of cutting the image which is “papel de parede” in Portuguese, which in English should be “wallpaper”. If you cut the image that you want with this format, when you apply the wallpaper, the blur doesn’t happen anymore.
