Composing Mail - TOO SMALL to read

In MS Outlook etc you can zoom into the window and it increases the font size within the window (so you can still see the entire text NOT JUST A MAGNIFYING GLASS). Apple Mail will not let me adjust the way a composed message appears on the screen to make it bigger and easier to read, as it presents far too small.

I DO NOT WANT to increase font size to compose then reduce the font size to send (I will forget and look like an idiot to the recipient).

In the mail app you can zoom in and out, but NOT IN COMPOSING MESSAGES!!!! Am I missing something?

Please help.

As I said many times above: if you use plain text, it does not matter how large a font you use to view on your mac. I compose in 24pt font, as I have bad eyesight. Does not affect the recipient in any way.

And if you prefer rich text (a bad idea, IMO), then you are choosing what font and size the recipient will see.

it seemed to me that that's what the OP wants - otherwise there would be no point in even thinking of the font size "to send", as it will depend entirely on the recipient's settings.

It seemed to me that the OP wants to have a very large font at his end without having the reader seeing the same big font at the other end. Mail normally takes care of that automatically. The recipient sees your mail in whatever font he decides is right for him (unless you jump through extra hoops in the New Message pane for each outgoing).

Agreed... provided that the sender is using plain text.

Is it also your experience that setting Mail > Preferences > Composing to Rich Text does not in fact produce rich text but only plain text in your outgoing, with no indication of font name or size in the raw source message codes? It's worth checking if you have not done so already.

I have not tested recently, but I think the answer is yes. Unless I manually set something that forces rich text, like using a specific font or using bold or italics, it will come out as plain text.

Hi - did you find a fix for this? I have called apple to raise the same issue and they are saying the only fix is to increase the font of the message when composing and then reduce back down before sending. I have been doing this but twice I have forgotten to reduce back down so the recipient has ended up with a huge font making me look a bit of a wally! Seems a really basic thing to be able to do.
