iOS 17.0 Apple Remote on iPhone no longer works
I have restarted my iPhone, restarted Apple TV, but now that I upgraded to iOS 17.0 The Apple Remote feature from iPhone no longer works. It has worked just fine for years, but now it does not.

Yes, I did upgrade to iOS 17.0 that's when it stopped working. I don't have a physical remote (damaged) and can't put my Apple TV on wi-fi (because I don't have a remote), so it only has ethernet connection. So no way to use my Apple TV.
I have thé Apple support.
after some manipulations in settings( Forget the wifi , reset network setting on the ATV and the IPhone) it works.
unplug also the ATV
but when I plug my ethernet wire to the ATV it doesn’t work again.
only works with the Wifi for me

Let Apple know:
Apple TV with tvOS 17 connected ethernet cable:
My guess is that apple has changed something igmp communication, which gives problems on some routers.
In my setup to solve it, i had to disable the option „Enable IGMP Snooping“ on my Asus Router WLan Setings and disable BLAT Protection on my DLink Switch, that bonjour(mdns)(apple remote and appletv as home hub) and the shield pro as a chromecast target has started working again.
A good programm for troubleshoot was in my case this programm.

When in the app the apple tv or shield pro has not shown up with entries, it has for sure not worked. As soon they have showed up after changing the setting on router and on the switch, all has worked like it should.
Does this happen for the YouTube app perhaps? Does it work as expected for other apps?
My assumption is that the YouTube app has a programming error that interrupts text entries this way. They’ll need to fix this with an app update. How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
It works just fine in other apps — for me.
Hi, I have complex problem. I have updated both my Apple tvs (previous 4k version and latest apple tv) to TvOS 17 and they worked perfect with my 13 Pro Max iOS 16.
what I mean:
after I have updated my iPhone to iOS 17
my customer experience became lest positive ;(
As I experienced no issues with iOS 17 and tvOS 17, the software seems to work fine. The issue will be in some of the settings, or else the home network.
in my case, the remote in the control center doesn't work since TVOS17 if the ATV is connected with ethernet.
Connected with the WIFI work fine, but I have a ATV with ethernet is not to use wifi.

Disappointing news, once you turned off Apple TV the remote in control on iPhone 15 Pro Max won't work. Has to restart Wi-Fi everytime.
Check if you have to disable igpm snooping on the router for the wireless network and if you have a smart switch, that it has not activated security blocking features. In my case it is most likely the blant protection, but I have now disabled all, which is anyway the default setting for the switch.

This is a tvOS 17 issue. I tested it with my iphone and apple watch and did the same. Unplug the ethernet on apple TV, everithing is working fine. After I plug the ethernet cable, in my iphone and in my watch the remote control doesnt work anymore. It worked with the tvOS 16.
I can't tell you why it worked before but, if the ATV is plugged into an ethernet cable, it's not using WiFi and the remote app relies on that.
Yes, this is my mistake. In my first post I wrote app, but I meant control. I always used the remote control in the control center. I didn't know there was a remote control application. Thank you for the clarification.
I have the same issue and sort of get your thoughts but the iPhone and the ATV are on the same network - think of a NAS - it is connected to the network by an Ethernet Cable but you can access the files from your iphone
Same thing happened with me. What I did to fix my problem was: go to the Home app, make sure that the Apple TV you want to control is playing some type of media, select the remote icon (should be to the left of the rewind button), it should take you to the Apple TV Remote “app” from there.
