iOS 17.0 Apple Remote on iPhone no longer works

I have restarted my iPhone, restarted Apple TV, but now that I upgraded to iOS 17.0 The Apple Remote feature from iPhone no longer works. It has worked just fine for years, but now it does not.

Yes, I did upgrade to iOS 17.0 that's when it stopped working. I don't have a physical remote (damaged) and can't put my Apple TV on wi-fi (because I don't have a remote), so it only has ethernet connection. So no way to use my Apple TV.

My guess is that apple has changed something igmp communication, which gives problems on some routers.

In my setup to solve it, i had to disable the option „Enable IGMP Snooping“ on my Asus Router WLan Setings and disable BLAT Protection on my DLink Switch, that bonjour(mdns)(apple remote and appletv as home hub) and the shield pro as a chromecast target has started working again.

A good programm for troubleshoot was in my case this programm.

When in the app the apple tv or shield pro has not shown up with entries, it has for sure not worked. As soon they have showed up after changing the setting on router and on the switch, all has worked like it should.

Hi, I have complex problem. I have updated both my Apple tvs (previous 4k version and latest apple tv) to TvOS 17 and they worked perfect with my 13 Pro Max iOS 16.

what I mean:

  1. remote controller works via mobile data, without connection to the wifi, but via wifi too.
  2. both apple tvs connected via ethernets and all worked

after I have updated my iPhone to iOS 17

  1. latest apple tv works as usually. It is connected to ethernet and I can use remote controller, but iPhone doesn't allow use remote if iPhone not connected to wifi, but previously wifi wasn't mandatory, and I could operate via mobile data

  1. another apple tv which is previous 4k version can not be see when it is connected via ethernet, but works only if connected to wifi. So to be able to use remote I have to connect it via wifi, not ethernet, so connection quality is less. And the same; if iPhone not connected to wifi, I am not able to use remote

my customer experience became lest positive ;(

This is a tvOS 17 issue. I tested it with my iphone and apple watch and did the same. Unplug the ethernet on apple TV, everithing is working fine. After I plug the ethernet cable, in my iphone and in my watch the remote control doesnt work anymore. It worked with the tvOS 16.

I can't tell you why it worked before but, if the ATV is plugged into an ethernet cable, it's not using WiFi and the remote app relies on that.
