iOS 17.0 Apple Remote on iPhone no longer works
I have restarted my iPhone, restarted Apple TV, but now that I upgraded to iOS 17.0 The Apple Remote feature from iPhone no longer works. It has worked just fine for years, but now it does not.

Yes, I did upgrade to iOS 17.0 that's when it stopped working. I don't have a physical remote (damaged) and can't put my Apple TV on wi-fi (because I don't have a remote), so it only has ethernet connection. So no way to use my Apple TV.
That's strange, while it stopped working for a little bit the Apple TV remote from the iPhone has been solid for the last few months at all my customers installations as well as at home. Are you hardwired or on Wi-Fi? May want to perform a factory reset on the Apple TV.
Same, restarting will bring the ATV back in the remote app for less than an hour, and it disappears again. 2 of my 5 Apple TVs consistently go missing. Very frustrating. I setup logitech harmony hubs (via homebridge) to get the control back in the remote app but it’s not ideal since the command comes from the hub, a slight delay versus sending command straight to Apple TV
Mine has not worked since I upgraded. I have iPhone 14 and I have two Apple TV 4K devices. Everything worked fine until the upgrade, I have done everything as recommended… restarting the router, restarting all the devices, disconnecting from Wi-Fi and reconnecting... nothing worked. I have a dead remote and have always counted on the fact that the remote app on the phone worked. I honestly think they're just trying to get me to buy a new Apple TV or a remote.
I’m experiencing the same problem.
Apple TV on Ethernet/LAN connection as well.
A workaround is to turn on Directional Buttons (on your iPhone or Apple device you use as a remote)
go to Settings > Accessibility > Apple TV Remote and toggle the Directional Buttons.
it’s not as fast as swiping but it will fix the issue (at least until Apple rolls out a fix)
I am able to connect to Apple TV with iPhone Apple Remote and begin typing. After I type one word the input line dumps. Once I go back to Search I am able to add a second word. After the second word it dumps again but it does preserve the first two words. Once again, I have to go back to Search to add additional words.
Me too I have only one of five remotes showing since iOS 17.4.1 (iPhone 15pro) with 4k Apple TVs. The latest Apple software and hardware and basic features like this don’t work. This has been an issue since iOS 17.0 and still not fixed, if I wanted these troubles I should bought android for half the price. It should take this long without a resolution. Would appreciate a fix.
I have tv and phone updated and remote app only works when I restart both and after a while it stops working again. I’m not going to restart both each time I wanna use remote app. And I’m connect with WiFi.
This is finally solved almost a year after IOS17 is released
1) upgrade your iphone to the latest version
2) Go into Settings > Wifi > Tap the "i" next to your wifi network > Turn OFF Private Wifi Address
The MAC address randomization breaks the ability to reliably control remote for multiple Apple TVs
Check if the mdns(bonjour) entries are visible.
If not that is the issue.
They can be checked with discovery app.
Did you upgrade you Apple TV to tvOS 17.0 ? That fixed it for me.
Not iOS17 - but the Apple TV to tvOS 17 -- if you can't do it, then I'd suggest taking it to an Apple Store and have them update it for you, then test your iPhone remote.
Another thing I noticed, if your remote can SEE your Apple TV, then put your phone right next to the box and let it sit there for a few minutes. That's what I had to do before it would connect.
Just to be clear, the Remote app doesn't work anymore, hasn't for a while. You have to use the remote in the Control Center.
iPhone 14 pro tried all of the above. Didn’t work. Tried google phone. Easy fix. It worked without issue
Having a similar issue ever since connecting via ethernet. My phone remote in control center is still able to see my other to ATV's in the house that are connected via wifi.
