Do the following, i this order:
This should restart the BonJour network that manages printer connectivity.
Note that is probably just one of these that needs to be done, but figuring out which one will take longer than just doing them all.
Both my iPhone and iPad have iOS 17 and they both still print.
Yes, I did the standard turn everything off and on. What’s so puzzling is that one thing did print on my ink jet, I thought it was all fixed, then my second document wouldn’t print on the laser or ink jet that just worked. It’s nonsense. I have no VPN.
I’ll try it, but I swear I’ve done this a couple of times in the last week. It shouldn’t print one minute and decide not to print the next. I see the printers, they just don’t do anything. It’s bizarre that it selectively works on sequential print requests.
The common advice is to restart everything, as Lawrence Finch has been stating, but he's failing to point out that, 1, it won't work for everyone, and 2, it wont work at your workplace.
Despite Lawrence's ridged (scripted perhaps? I do question his qualifications, as any qualified IT support person knows, being so ridged, only provides bad support) responses, this is an Apple bug that Apple need to fix.
Still not working after several network resets, no vpn, private network address off on my WiFi, network resets on iPhone and iPad, several router reboots and factory resets, turning my phone off on on hundreds of times now I imagine.
still won’t print form Cannon MF247dw

And no, you will NOT lose the ability to print until Apple fixes anything, because there is nothing for Apple to fix. AirPrint works for millions of users of iOS 17, because if it didn’t you would see thousands of posts about it. If it doesn’t work on your device you have a problem with your phone, your network, or your printer.
Then explain why setting up an AirPrint Config. Profile doesn't help? And why devices on 16 and older still work perfectly fine?

Listen-er read, I'm an Apple fan like you obviously are, but this statement alone disqualifies you from being an IT professional, because what worked perfectly fine in 16, now barely works in 17, meaning Apple have changed something, and in so doing, created a bug they need to fix. I am an IT professional and I am confident in that fact. Continually stating the same restart advice is the only fix when it doesn't work for everyone while working on your "perfect" network is providing bad support, and if you were working for me I'd be considering firing you. Just because you can get it to work, does not automatically mean there is no bug.
So, until you can effectively explain why the restarting advice is not needed for iOS/iPadOS 16 & older, and why adding an AirPrint Config. Profile to an iOS/iPadOS 17+ device does not help, please learn how to provide support from your local Apple professional.
This is a real hassle with 17- I have been printing on my workplace network printers for years, now I have to go through the supplied Windows laptop (which I don't use for anything else) to print anything! Glad some of the steps suggested by Lawrence worked for some people, certainly didn't for me. just updated to iPadOS17, no change!
I also - my iPad is IOS 17 - it works - my iPhone is IOS 17.1 - it didn't work, it after all the above, it still doesn't work.
I tried this procedure and still have the same problem. After I “select printer”, it shows the name “Canon MF 260”, which is not quite right. It used to show, more specifically “Canon mf267”. When I select thprinter, it shows for a split second, then lapses back to “no printer selected”. What’s the fix here? Thanks.
Now I see that my Macbook, which hasn’t yet been upgraded to Sonoma, is printing fine.
(we moved recently and I haven’t turned it on for a few weeks) I’m now reluctant to update this device, since it’s the only one printing. Just a little more information for the discussion.
Thank you so much for your detailed fix! I have the exact printer and this fix worked. We can again print from our iPhone 13 and IPhone 14 ProMAX (that use iOS 17) directly to this printer. YEAH!! I am so glad Canon supports the firmware update for this printer. I was worried the printer would be too old to support.
Tried this for iPhone upgrade 17.1.1. Wifi printing not working at all (no response to printer even though it saw it.) After those steps above, it now prints garbled color blocks. Ipad (not updated) still prints fine. It’s def the iOS iPhone update that made hp printing impossible. Any other suggestions? Really don’t want to have to get a new printer just cause iOS incompatible with older printers.
Since updating to iOS 17 I can no longer print reliably from my iPhone. I get timeout errors instead. I've tried all the fixes suggested and they might work once, but next time, they don't work. I print daily from my iPhone and immediately noticed the problem. Even rebooting the phone can get printing working - just once. (Not a real fix - I cannot reboot each time I need to print.)
Inconsistencies cut across apps - one day not able to print from Edge, but can print the same webpage from Safari. Next day cannot print even from Safari.
I've got a networked Samsung Xpress M2825 printer which is supported by Airprint - About AirPrint - Apple Support
This a real shame as one of the great benefits of using all this equipment was the convenience of printing documents from my hand held device - no more sadly. Hopefully an iOS update will come through soon which will fix it.
1530, I want to thank you for posting this walk through. This worked perfectly to fix this printing problem with our Canon MF260 printer.
I never would have figured out that a printer firmware update was required to fix this bug after a iOS update had it not been for your post here.
Thank you very much!
I followed the steps suggested. Then tried to print from my iPhone. When it reads "No Printer Selected" I click on that and my printer name does appear. It circles a bit and then reverts to "No Printer Selected". Am I missing something?
