To start with: I'm not intending to say that the cause of this problem is due this or this. I only want the iOS users where I work to be able to print the way they was able before 17 and to know what has caused the problem not how to "make it to away".
I have read the 5 step "turn it off and on again solution" and I have read that it seem to work on some devices in some networks.
When a solution to a problem is to "turn it off and on" the problem is doomed to come back until the actual cause is fixed. This might work in a SOHO environment but not in larger organisations where the device count on both iOS/IpadOS devices and printers it counted in hundreds or thousands.
I wan't to add one thing that I've made in a quest to find what's the cause of this.
We have thousands of client devices and >1000 iPads in the organization where I work and we immediately blocked upgrade to iOS/iPadOS 17 when we understood that AirPrint stopped working after upgrading to 17.x.
I have tried to get iPads back to 16 but so far the only model that I could do it with has been with iPad gen 6.
Result: AirPrint worked like before when they did run on 16. Nothing was done on printers (server handled, not SOHO devices), router (large firewall), DNS'es or any other parts of the network. Just downgraded the devices to 16.
I just did the following on one iPad 6 gen:
Running on 16.7.2: AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 16.7.2 to 17.1 via DFU - result: No AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 17.1 to 16.7.2 via DFU - result: AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 16.7.2 to 17.1 via DFU - result: No AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 17.1 to 16.7.2 via DFU - result: AirPrint printers visible.
No other changes in the network environment was made.
How many times shall this be performed back and forth to get statistics if AirPrint works or not until this is seen as something that was introduced / changed (maybe not a real bug) in 17 since the problem isn't in 16.7.2 but in 17.x.?
As I wrote in the beginning I'm not on a quest to whine about this or that. I just wan't my users to be able to use AirPrint as before 17.x
I first reported my AirPrint problem on this forum in November, and although just now I emuilated another post, this time by photohodge, about techniques that have righted their ship, I still have no resolution with my iPhone 11 using 17.2.1... My Samsung printer responds fortunately to my desktop HP computer via a plugged-in connection. and Samsung /HP Support claims that since iPhone 12 using 16.9 software has *no problem with AirPrint, that this is strictly an AirPrint/Apple problem. I haven't seen any posts here dealing with a Samsung printer, so: Has anyone who updated software to 17.2 and uses an iPhone had success in re-connecting their device via AirPrint with a *Samsung printer ?
I had three issues after the iOS updates on my phone snd watch.
The two specific to my watch have been resolved (apple pay and “now playing” )
the third, air print has not. I have 2 Epson printers. Neither has a firmware update available and I have installed a new wifi router (which fixed another espin user who posted on this thread).
interestingly, my old Epson printer (WP-4533), can AirPrint. My newer, smaller one ET-3760 still cannot AirPrint. It shows the printer… but simply goes nothing when asked to print.
i have also cleared my cache as suggested in these posts… still not helping.
I have followed all the instructions I have read so far… in order… but no luck
Ok I just updated my iPhone with the new 17.3 fix. I can print now but only through the Cannon print app I download to my phone! Still won’t work the old way! Of course Apple would not specifically say what it actually fixes! Just says security issues!
go into setting VPN. Set device VPN connect on demand off, turn VPN status off for device only, and you can now print, the printer actually populates on its own. I then manually turn device VPN back on until I have to print again. Personal VPN can remain on.
Last week we got iOS 17.3 update. Installed it, and tried with printing - have to wait a couple of days to see it has 'stuck'. Unfortunately, it does not provide a fix for me. I still cannot print reliably on my Samsung printer. None of the x4 updates since the problem first appeared has provided a fix.
The 17.3 update has not changed my situation, my phone cannot find my Samsung AirPrinter. Meanwhile, my visiting daughter was able to access yesterday, using her iPhone 12 with iOS 16.9. A week ago, I asked Apple Support point blank, is it possible I’ll have to wait several more months to resolve the problem? I showed them some of the posts to this Community Board. They did not exclude possibility it might take Apple techs many more months to figure it out.
But does it work consistently now? Mine worked all the time before IOS 17. Now it’ll work sporadically. Today it printed a page no problem, but 2 hours later it wouldn’t go. I cycled the phone off/on, cycled the printer, still just reads “printing” forever. I gave up and printed from the laptop. Tomorrow it might work or may not- it just prints ok every now and then without me doing anything special. Then sometimes it makes a major fuss and I can’t get it to go. Each moment to the next can be different, it’s nuts. I’m not resetting my iphone network settings each time I want to print as that’s too much (I’ll do it on occasion, but I’m not going that far every time it won’t print).
Printer not found by iPhone since iOS 17 update , IPad links ok , printer and iPhone are on the same internet as the IPad , I’ve tried everything , the fault is for sure is in the update , there isn’t anything which I haven’t tried
The problem was not airprinting in general. The problem was that they all printed from the PHOTO app before and
not it prints BLANK PAGES. They told me in tech support they are aware of the issue and trying to fix it. No fix yet? I hope a fix soon.
I still have the problem too. No fix. I can AirPrint but only through a much more cumbersome brother app. Previously I could print directly from the PHOTO APP and I just hit the little arrow in box going upward and voila printed on old new ancient phones. Now I get nothing but a blank piece of paper. No fix! Tech support told me the same thing “working on it” through 5 updates now.
I too have Samsung Xpress printer. Printing via Airprint has been hit and miss since iOS 17.1. I found a reboot of the phone more often than not would reenable the ability to print, but not for long. Printing from (mobile) Word has been fairly reliable through this period, but printing from the browser (Edge) has been very unreliable. Most printed pages from websites generated an error sheet on the printer - timeout error. Sometimes printing from another browser (Safari) would print when Edge wouldn't, but not always, so not a fix. Just as often it too would generate a timeout error page.
Before iOS 17, Airprinting onto my (still listed by Apple as supported for Airprint) Samsung printer was 100% reliable from all apps. Never failed. This step backwards has been very frustrating and quite a time sink. A negative impact on productivity.
same here, but..if i make a picture, and the edit the foto and just put 1 tiny spot somewhere, doesn't matter what color, then it prints.
But this is ofcourse not the normal way to get things done like it should.
Now i' am at ios 17.3.1 ( latest) and it is still not solved...
Shame on you mr. Apple !!!
Tried printing from my phone yesterday. No change from when I first reported it to Apple and via this discussion. Still cannot print, and still get the same "URF Incomplete session by time out" error on my (officially supported by Apple) Samsung printer I have from the start. I always update to the latest iOS version - currently running 17.3.1.
This problem has gone on for a long time now - and is still causing me problems. Basically having to use another device to print anything - a Windows 11 laptop has never failed to print correctly.
I would strongly recommend you do NOT reset network settings as some people have suggested in this thread. I did this - not only did it not fix the problem - but losing all my saved Wi-Fi passwords has been way more inconvenient than not being able to print at home from my phone. Some venues I visit regularly I can only get a connection via Wi-Fi, and every one of them has had to be re-entered which in many cases has required digging out the router and reading the label etc.
i*OS 17.4 was just released and now it seems like both the Bonjour/Airprint printer detection problem and the fact that it was (almost?) impossible to print from images from "Photos" is solved.
Now I just miss the feature that came in iOS 10 which is delete / forget printers that require username and password since there is as far as I know no other way to change credentials for a printer.
Upgraded iPhone 13 Pro to 17.4 and my ipad pro 12.9 4th generation to 17.4 and both printed an email to my Epson ET-2750 this morning.
Just got to update an iPad 8" and an iPad mini later today.......
At last! 😁
