AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

AirPrint was working on ios16 using a Canon printer connected to my home WiFi. I recently updated to ios17 and the printer shows up as an available printer but shortly disappears after selecting it. I am able to print on iPad os 16 and my MacBook Air on Ventura using AirPrint. I’ve reset network setting on both router iPhone and printer and I am still encountering same behavior. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it or if it is a known bug in ios17? I’ve also restarted my phone and tested it on my partners iPhone which shows same behavior on ios17.

I have the same issue with Canon MF240 and no security software installed on my iPhone and iPad. Just updated to iOS 17.0.1 . The printer name shows up for a while and then disappears! I can print from my computer. I didn’t have this issue until before updating to iOS 17. Please fix this problem, it’s really annoying.

100% UPDATE THE FIRMWARE ON THE PRINTER! Even the Canon reps did not know this, and sent me on a rigmarole for literally 5 hours, and they still had a terrible fix which was to download the canon print app, then you have to go save your item as a file (extra steps if it's an email or a photo) Thanks to YOUR COMMENT it works!

This was for my elderly parents who suddenly couldn't print after the iPad update and they have been suffering getting it to work. then I had to teach them how to use this canon print app work around - they were so confused - and I had to write down the instructions for them step by step, and still they had a hard time and were SO UPSET that it has become far more complicated.

I said don't worry mom, I'm sure they will have a fix soon because lots of people will complain, in fact, I will see how many complaints there are. Googled it, and found your comment - and your fix worked!

My mom is literally singing my praises for the last 15 minutes calling me a hero - but I did nothing. Thank God I found your comment! I so appreciate it, my parents are SO RELIEVED they can just go back to the original way and don't have to do this new complicated way!

Thanks Lawrence, it makes sense to have all the various pieces of information in one place. It will take you a while but it will make things easier for people. Read your resume and it all makes good sense. As a detailed point, Bonjour (AirPrint) works over Ethernet as well as WiFi.

Bought a new iPhone yesterday, I can print to my 12 year old laser with it. 😁

Take care Lawrence catch up again sometime.

Good point, I’ll mention it as wired connection, as most users don’t know what ethernet is.

Congratulations on your new iPhone. I suspect that the Canon firmware problem is that it used an unsupported API or misused a supported API that went away with the latest BonJour update.

Not true at ALL. I print to Lexmark, HP, Canon, and Brother printers at various IT businesses I work for. Airprint will NOT print photos to any printers anymore since IOS 17 came out, it just prints blank pages. This is NOT a printer firmware issue, it is purely an IOS issue. I updated to the new IOS 17.1.2 this morning, and it still isn't fixed.

It has always printed PDFs, etc. just fine, it has just lost the ability to print any pictures from the phone since IOS 17 came out.

Come on APPLE, fix this already!!

Ok I got my iPhone printing to the Epson WF-2650. I reset the AirPrint using the Epson iPrint app from the App Store. I selected the printer (it seems use Bluetooth to connect). Then selected the printer on the top line, and went to advanced settings. Scroll down and select AirPrint setup. Click OK, then click OK again. Magic, The AirPrint is setup! And it prints!

I too have problems printing to my canon network printer on home network from my iphone 11 and my wife’s too after doing of 17.1.2 update. Airbook prints great on network - so it has to be os update bug. Tried powering everything down and back up - this update just fubar it would be nice to be able to revert to os 16 but that would make too much sense hey? When is NEXT OS update to fix this foing to happen?

As has already been posted several times, you need to update your Canon printer firmware. You can do that from the printer settings on the printer.
