AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

AirPrint was working on ios16 using a Canon printer connected to my home WiFi. I recently updated to ios17 and the printer shows up as an available printer but shortly disappears after selecting it. I am able to print on iPad os 16 and my MacBook Air on Ventura using AirPrint. I’ve reset network setting on both router iPhone and printer and I am still encountering same behavior. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it or if it is a known bug in ios17? I’ve also restarted my phone and tested it on my partners iPhone which shows same behavior on ios17.

I have the same issue with Canon MF240 and no security software installed on my iPhone and iPad. Just updated to iOS 17.0.1 . The printer name shows up for a while and then disappears! I can print from my computer. I didn’t have this issue until before updating to iOS 17. Please fix this problem, it’s really annoying.

My Brother printer will not connect to my iPhone since the latest upgrade. If so many people are having this problem it is clearly an apple screw up. They need to fix it fast. We need to use our printers.

This last upgrade messed up so many things that I need to use. The printer is just the newest thing I found. Whoever did this upgrade and whoever approved it should be fired.

Thanks for this! After installing the "HP Samsung Mobile Print" app on my iPhone I can finally use your method and print over WiFi on iOS 17.2. I have an unsupported Samsung printer (M2875FW) that is still in good condition and I'm just not ready to buy a new printer or could not be bothered to setting up an AirPrint server, just because Apple doesn't want to play nice anymore. I should add that the app looks prehistoric and I would still expect Apple to fix this in the OS so that printing can be done natively instead of relying on an ancient third-party app.

I didn't know the reason why AirPrint broke is because a much needed security update, thanks for the info. The thing is that the printer is perfect for my needs (light printing/scanning docs from time to time) so probably won't replace it until it physically breaks. The printer doesn't have Internet access but this would one more reason to put it behind a VLAN.

Sounds good. But the solution I read was: copy the picture in a note. Air-print the note with the picture. That works, directly printing the picture does not work? What is the difference?

so air- print works( no discussions about vpn, not correct IP etc). Air-print works for pdf, notes, word, excel etc. Only not for directly printing pictures.

What is then technical the difference?

Lawrence, I wonder if the file format has anything to do with it because prior to 17 we could AirPrint HEIF from the photos app or opening a photo elsewhere. For many of us with iOS 17 we are able to use Airprint from every other application, but it has only been the photos app or printing photos from another application that is now not working and this seems to be the case where a firmware update is no longer available for the printer. It is still strange to me that 17 broke printing photos only for many of us while everything else can still be printed.

I have this problem with my Pixma G7020, based on what I am seeing in this post, Canon needs to update their firmware. I have tried reaching out to them, worked with their chat team for about half an hour, my phone sees the printer on the network but AirPrint is not working, doesn’t show up on my iPhone or iPad as an Air printer. I tried all of the outlined steps in proper sequence, it solves the problem for the short term and within a few minutes the printer disappears again.

Same problem on HP LaserJet Pro 400 color Printer M451 series, and only with my iOS devices. (I *can* airprint from my Windows laptop to this HP printer, but *not* from my iOS devices running OS 17.2.1) All firmware on printer up-to-date. The printer shows as available on my iOS devices, I execute the print command, the printer acts like its going to print, and then just drops it and returns to neutral state. Any solutions? Thank you for any ideas!!
