AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

AirPrint was working on ios16 using a Canon printer connected to my home WiFi. I recently updated to ios17 and the printer shows up as an available printer but shortly disappears after selecting it. I am able to print on iPad os 16 and my MacBook Air on Ventura using AirPrint. I’ve reset network setting on both router iPhone and printer and I am still encountering same behavior. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it or if it is a known bug in ios17? I’ve also restarted my phone and tested it on my partners iPhone which shows same behavior on ios17.

I have the same issue with Canon MF240 and no security software installed on my iPhone and iPad. Just updated to iOS 17.0.1 . The printer name shows up for a while and then disappears! I can print from my computer. I didn’t have this issue until before updating to iOS 17. Please fix this problem, it’s really annoying.

Wao!!! Thanks Lawrence Finch! I just tried your recipe and it worked. I just printed the conversation with you from my iPhone on my HP 6200 printer! And my iPad has also recognised the printer. I switched off my iPhone, printer and the router. I started the router again after 15 seconds and then my iPhone and printer. Then it started working normally again! Thanks once again.!!

Thanks for these firmware update steps, FABERDP. I didn't know you could update the Canon MF240 series via the printer's keypad (I was making it more difficult than it was). So I went over to the printer, used the keystrokes you mentioned, and saw an option to update the firmware via the internet. Sure enough, the printer connected to the Canon site, found a new firmware update, installed it and now when I AirPrint, the printer STAYS CONNECTED and actually prints. Thank you, FABERDP, for putting just a couple of notes about how you updated the Firmware to enable the rest of to do this fast and easy fix. AIRPRINT IS WORKING AGAIN!

PS: I also learned in this research that while something is printing via AirPrint, you can open up your iPhone active app windows to see the printer dialog box to see the printing progress as well as DELETE THE PRINT JOB if you may have accidentally tried to print an entire users manual--which I may--or may not--have done.

For us it is not AirPrint that is the issue. We print solely over wi-fi. Before iOS update 17 we could print anything from our iPhones and iPads. That is myself and my wife’s iphones and iPads. 4 devices.

After iOS 17 we can still print everything EXCEPT photos from all of these Apple devices. Why is this?

We have found a workaround in that if we copy a photo to a “notes” page and print the note it will print the photo on the note.

Not an ideal situation.

I have the same issue. Neither my Canon nor Brother printer will print AirPrints. The documents go to the printers, and I can see the printers preparing to print, but then it doesn’t print. I’ve tried to print from my IPad and IPhone. After the 17.2 software update, I turned off/on my router, PC and both devices. It printed. Then the next day it wouldn’t print and still won’t. I really use AirPrint a lot and this is very inconvenient.

I did manage to fix this on my phone by selecting the Wifi network ℹ️ > “Forget this network”

Then reconnect to the network and disable “Private Wifi Address”

Printing to my Brother Laser printer is working again. There was a recent firmware update to the printer prior to this but the firmware update alone did not resolve the issue.

I’m thinking it is a combination of the firmware update on the printer and the forgetting/reconnecting Wifi that resolved the issue for me. Hope this helps someone.

I didn't have problems till the 17.2 update on iOS. The best solution is to do it on a device that hasn't updated and disconnect your devices from the iCloud. The problem will be extended to the other devices through the iCloud. I'm just lucky I didn't update my tablet. I can't print anything off my phone, every document is completely ruined.

I have performed everything listed in this thread. I still can’t AirPrint from neither my IPad 6 nor IPhone 11 to my Brother MFC-J985DW and Canon MX922. After turning on/off router and all devices, AirPrint worked for one print job. Then it would not work. All software is up to date. I don’t use Norton VPN and VPN on devices is not activated. All is on the same network. This is quite frustrating. Yes. Both of my Apple devices are generations behind, and both my printers are old. But my husband’s iPhone 13 also won’t AirPrint.

Why can't Apple fix the iOS 17 AirPrint problem since it's obvious there are so many of us in this forum plus thousands no doubt everywhere else?? I appreciate Lawrence Finch's AirPrint Troubleshooting page but why should we have to try to go thru his 13 point list to fix THEIR problem. I have tried to follow his list but my Norton VPN automatically comes back on even tho I have Auto Disconnect turned off! So I give up!!

C'mon Apple!!

Lawrence, I don't believe it, but it finally worked! I have a HP printer and Norton and have done your steps several times, but I think the difference is that I was trying to print from a photo, so I tried printing from an email and waited a couple minutes for it to be set up in AirPrint. Then I hit the dimmed out "Printer Not Found" again, and it worked!!! Thanks so much.

I have the same problem! I found a temporary fix:

Do the in the following order:

1  Do a complete power off of iPhone.

2  Turn off the printer.

3  Unplug router for 15 seconds

4  Plug the router back in.

5  Turn on printer.

6 power the iPhone back on.

This only worked for a short time then it stopped working! Last time I tried it it did not work@ all! My husband can’t print from his iPhone either! Both my daughters have Androids and have no problems printing from their phones!

I’m so mad! I wish Apple would fix this problem!

Just updated iPhone and iPad to 17.3, no help, same as most others, no firmware update available from Canon, performing step by step reset allows you to print maybe once and then the printer goes offline for Airprinting however all other non iOs functions on the network are fine, printer functions normally. This has to be an apple problem and I can't believe it has gone on so long.
