AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

AirPrint was working on ios16 using a Canon printer connected to my home WiFi. I recently updated to ios17 and the printer shows up as an available printer but shortly disappears after selecting it. I am able to print on iPad os 16 and my MacBook Air on Ventura using AirPrint. I’ve reset network setting on both router iPhone and printer and I am still encountering same behavior. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it or if it is a known bug in ios17? I’ve also restarted my phone and tested it on my partners iPhone which shows same behavior on ios17.

I have the same issue with Canon MF240 and no security software installed on my iPhone and iPad. Just updated to iOS 17.0.1 . The printer name shows up for a while and then disappears! I can print from my computer. I didn’t have this issue until before updating to iOS 17. Please fix this problem, it’s really annoying.

It’s not a matter of Apple not playing nice. Apple updated BonJour to fix a vulnerability, and printer manufacturers had to update their firmware to adapt; it’s the printer manufacturer who isn’t playing nice. If Apple hadn’t fixed BonJour your printer could have been hacked.

And note that most printers don’t have a problem; my HP, for example, was updated months before Apple fixed this problem.

Have you checked for a printer firmware update? You can usually do that from the printer’s control panel.

Contact Canon:

Have been just-now released, Canon probably has yet to do their part in making the compatible. So, contact Canon Support, asking them for the correct drivers, for your iPhone.

Google their Contact Info: Canon [model #] Printer series contact us. Replace "[model #]" with the model number.

Can confirm:

Airprint with iOs17 still works, but not on all printer.

My Setup:

-older Printer from Canon (mF240 class) with original Firmware: Airprint works with all iPhones on iOS16, but not with IOS17

-newer Printer from Brother: Airprint works with all iOS16 AND all iOS17 devices!

A Firmware Update from 2021 was available for the older Canon.

With the newer Canon Firmware, all devices with iOS16 AND iOS17 can use Airprint on the Canon Printer!

Two factors causes this issue:

  • Printer suppliers changed or corrected their Airprint implementation some years ago
  • Apple iOS16 worked with old and new implementation, iOS17 only with the corrected one.

If you can’t use Airprint with your iOS17 device; Check your printer supplier. If there is no firmware upgrade: you won‘t get Airprint back. This seems to be a correct implementation from Apple, so there will be no fix from Apple.

Hi had the IOS 17 air print not working problem, after speaking to Apple support it transpires it was Nortons VPN stopping it working. After removing the VPN bit of Nortons's all is Now working and I am able to print OK.

The Apple advisor is of the opinion that Nortons hs not yet been updated to deal with IOS 17.

As I say All now bck to normal, maybe this will help someone else!

I recently updated to ios17 and the printer shows up as an available printer but shortly disappears after selecting it. I was advised to restart router, wifi extenders, printers and iPad. This didn't really make sense as my Mac mini and phone both printed ok. SO after a lot of water time I found this comment - spot on. I deleted the Norton app on the iPad and now everything woks properly. If you're running Norton I'd try this first. Once they update I'll reinstall on my iPad.
