AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

AirPrint was working on ios16 using a Canon printer connected to my home WiFi. I recently updated to ios17 and the printer shows up as an available printer but shortly disappears after selecting it. I am able to print on iPad os 16 and my MacBook Air on Ventura using AirPrint. I’ve reset network setting on both router iPhone and printer and I am still encountering same behavior. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it or if it is a known bug in ios17? I’ve also restarted my phone and tested it on my partners iPhone which shows same behavior on ios17.

Updates are what firmware is all about. To get something working as it should with a newer Operating System and to fix bugs, install firmware updates.

Thanks for these firmware update steps, FABERDP. I didn't know you could update the Canon MF240 series via the printer's keypad (I was making it more difficult than it was). So I went over to the printer, used the keystrokes you mentioned, and saw an option to update the firmware via the internet. Sure enough, the printer connected to the Canon site, found a new firmware update, installed it and now when I AirPrint, the printer STAYS CONNECTED and actually prints. Thank you, FABERDP, for putting just a couple of notes about how you updated the Firmware to enable the rest of to do this fast and easy fix. AIRPRINT IS WORKING AGAIN!

PS: I also learned in this research that while something is printing via AirPrint, you can open up your iPhone active app windows to see the printer dialog box to see the printing progress as well as DELETE THE PRINT JOB if you may have accidentally tried to print an entire users manual--which I may--or may not--have done.

I did manage to fix this on my phone by selecting the Wifi network ℹ️ > “Forget this network”

Then reconnect to the network and disable “Private Wifi Address”

Printing to my Brother Laser printer is working again. There was a recent firmware update to the printer prior to this but the firmware update alone did not resolve the issue.

I’m thinking it is a combination of the firmware update on the printer and the forgetting/reconnecting Wifi that resolved the issue for me. Hope this helps someone.

Have you checked EVERYTHING in this user tip, that was previously posted on the same page as your post?→AirPrint Troubleshooting - Apple Community

Especially removing VPN if you use it.

And note that most Canon printers need a firmware update to work with the latest version of Bon Jour. You can install it from the printer’s control panel.

Decided to try something else and changed the wireless security settings of my TP-LINK router back to WPA2(which what my old LINKSYS router was) from the WPA3 default settings of my new router, (reason I went for a new router a year ago was cause the newer WPA3).

And it all worked for almost a year happily together until Apple came out with IOS 17.

And now my old CANON MG6320 is printing again over AirPrint!!

Also is showing up in my router connection list and is still connected and able to print to after changing my router security settings back to the higher WPE3 security.

Fingers crossed it stays there longer than a day or so.....!

Also, just to clarify- I have a canon imageclass and I was able to update the firmware directly on the printer. I just googled the instructions and it walked me through regarding what settings to go to on the printer to update the firmware. Once it was done installing, I turned the printer off/on just so it would do a full restart and connect to my router and that’s when I was able to resume printing from both my iPhone and iPad.

Thanks, that was very helpful.
