AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

AirPrint was working on ios16 using a Canon printer connected to my home WiFi. I recently updated to ios17 and the printer shows up as an available printer but shortly disappears after selecting it. I am able to print on iPad os 16 and my MacBook Air on Ventura using AirPrint. I’ve reset network setting on both router iPhone and printer and I am still encountering same behavior. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it or if it is a known bug in ios17? I’ve also restarted my phone and tested it on my partners iPhone which shows same behavior on ios17.

Updates are what firmware is all about. To get something working as it should with a newer Operating System and to fix bugs, install firmware updates.

Excellent job troubleshooting!

Contact Canon:

Have been just-now released, Canon probably has yet to do their part in making the compatible. So, contact Canon Support, asking them for the correct drivers, for your iPhone.

Google their Contact Info: Canon [model #] Printer series contact us. Replace "[model #]" with the model number.

I have a workaround for older Samsung printers , I have a SLM2835DW which will not connect in IOS 17 but works perfectly fine in IOS 16 , download Samsung Mobile Print from the App Store , then share / send your docs to the app, then print from within the Samsung Mobil Print app . It is odd that IOS 17 cannot see the printer but the Samsung app does . Even Direct Print although correctly set up on my iPad is not able to connect with IOS 17 , hopefully this bug will be sorted by Apple soon

Lates update WORKED! A little background, I’ve got an Epson and have been struggling with this problem ever since I downloaded IOS 17. Today I turned off the router, printer, Norton VPN and reentered SSID to no avail. Just installed the latest update and it WORKED! And amazingly enough, my Norton VPN recognizes my WiFi again so I don’t have to keep signing in to toggle it off!

It's great that firmware updates are helpful to home users with personal printers. However, this is also an issue with Enterprise print systems. Users at my school who have upgraded to iOS 17 can print to our FujiXerox Docuprint copiers IF they use the proprietary FujiXerox app and if they enter the IP address of the copier. This implies that the printer itself is working and that waiting for a firmware update for our fleet of photocopiers isn't the best solution.

The more concerning issue to me is that when using AirPrint, users on iOS 17 are unable to discover the printers at all. To me, this seems like an issue with Bonjour discovery or the fundamental process of connecting to printers wirelessly.

These same users with iOS 17 are also unable to share their screens to the Apple TV in their classrooms via AIrPlay, which seems to be a related issue.

I honestly don’t think it has anything to do with anti-virus software- I don’t know why ppl are saying that. My canon image class is like 5 years old and when I updated the firmware OTA, it solved both printing problems on both my iPad and iPhone. I’m so surprised other printing manufactures aren’t falling in line. The quickest workaround I can think of is to basically airdrop whatever you’re trying to print from your iPhone to your MacBook. But sometimes the airdrop doesn’t work unless your MacBook OS is up to date. You would have to try and see first, but if the airdrop fails you can try turning off/on Bluetooth on your macboook before updating the OS. In terms of getting a new desktop, I doubt printing to your Epson would be a problem if the printer is fairly new. You would just have to download the driver from epson to your new MacBook or PC- whichever you buy. It’s found on the manufacture's website and you can often find the driver under downloads after you input the printer’s model number or serial number. That’s all I can think of until Apple gets their stuff together. They’ve started to make mistakes like this more often than they have in the past. Hope this helps.

Uhh yeah I did, I was on the phone for over a two hours with Apple who had me do everything humanly possible and even they couldn’t figure it out after being transferred to the second level support. I ended up figuring it out myself when someone suggested updating the firmware on my printer OTA. And guess what?? It solved the problem INSTANTLY. You don’t need a tech degree to figure out apple messed up and this is an isolated incident having to do with this iOS 17 update. You’re talking to someone who just knows about tech as a side gig/hobby from a young age- if you only knew what I actually do for a living.

Also, most ppl don’t have anti virus on their iPhone so I just thought it was a moot point. Plus it would by WAY more likely for the firewall attached to the anti virus to cause the problem than the actual anti virus - and that’s from actual experience. Yeah, worth trying, but it’s clearly not the issue. and I tried saying that in the most respectful way possible- I could have said “oh that’s a really dumb thing to think about”. But I didn’t, so I don’t appreciate the targeted sarcasm or the attempt to patronize me. I’ve been spending a lot of time on this thread trying to help people, not take shots at them. Also, I would think you would know that the only way to insult someone is if they actually cared about what you think of them . 🙄

There are new threads all the time; the issue here is that a symptom is being reported: AirPrint not working. But there are many possible causes for that symptom, and the solution will be different for each cause. From reviewing the thread, the most frequent cause is out of date printer firmware, and it seems to be tied with a corrupt VPN profile. But it can also be an antivirus (actually, an iOS device should NEVER have an antivirus; all they do is slow the phone down, drain the battery, and accomplish nothing else), router settings, and a few others.

I too have problems printing to my canon network printer on home network from my iphone 11 and my wife’s too after doing of 17.1.2 update. Airbook prints great on network - so it has to be os update bug. Tried powering everything down and back up - this update just fubar it would be nice to be able to revert to os 16 but that would make too much sense hey? When is NEXT OS update to fix this foing to happen?

As has already been posted several times, you need to update your Canon printer firmware. You can do that from the printer settings on the printer.
