No Mail sounds since iOS 17 update

Hi

i have just updated to ios17 and since then, my Apple Mail app has been silent when I receive Mail. It still makes the swoosh sound when I send from the app. All Notifications are on. Volume is up. At the moment this appears to be the only app I’m having an issue with. Any ideas on a solution would be gratefully received

After a full day of my life on this issue guys a senior tech found it!

go to mail

custom notifications

the buttons are set on each email to off for no apparent reason.

open each mail account and put “alerts” on.

I have the same issue. No custom domains for email. I use hide my email for certain mailing lists.

Set up rules for email sent to (hide my email address 1) move to folder X.

email moves to folder x, I see there is 1 unread email - No notification sound though.

Turning on a rule ends notification sounds for any email that falls into the rule. Emails that just come to my inbox without a rule, hide my email or not, get notification sounds.

There seems to be a problem with how Apple manages notification triggers. Notification sounds should be triggered regardless if the email is processed by a rule or not. This might have something to do with Apple requiring rules to be applied in the cloud for them to be correctly applied across more than 1 device.

I would value Apple giving email a functional review and include reviewing the encryption / security.

A feature I would appreciate is a “Button” to export email in an email folder to a folder on Mac as individual PDF’s.

anyhow.. notification issues are still present when rules are applied, would be great to see this resolved.

So..I got in touch with Apple yesterday. I sent over an analytics report from the phone..and nothing was wrong with the phone. Was given the opportunity to get a call back from senior support this morning. Have just finished with them and…they don’t have an answer about the update and they suggested I take the phone to an Apple Store to have a technician check the phone, but as many of you know, it’s not the phone. The nearest Apple Store is 1 1/2 hours away, so that won’t be happening anytime soon.

Ideally as many as possible with this issue need to contact Apple directly. This can be done very easily via their text messaging service

After getting the email response from Adamw77, I too contacted support via chat. Spent quite a bit of time there only to be referred to a call back which has not happened yet. I think this is going to be a waste of time with no immediate solution. I wanted to contact them so they have a record of this being any issue beyond one or two people and would encourage others to do the same.

Ok. After some experimenting I have found a solution this this problem. However, this is an issue Apple needs to address.

The solution I found is in settings, then notifications, then mail, you MUST have Lock Screen notifications on have any sound when you receive an email. If, like me, you have sound notifications on, but all visual alerts on screen off, you will not get any sound notifications either on ios17. I will now try this with other apps
