iOS 17 / PadOS 17 / Mail : no longer remembers previously-used move-to folders

Up until iOS 17, my iPhone and my iPad would remember folders of frequently-moved messages from a known sender. Swipe right on a message and you’d see a folder suggested that was commonly used for that sender.

As of iOS 17, Mail no longer seems to remember previously-used folders, forcing me to navigate through all my folders to find the folder I want to move the message into. Every time.

Seems an unlikely feature to lose. I reported the issue via the Feedback app when I was using the beta, but now that I’m using the production versions I still have the bug but no direct way to further report it.

PS: any idea why Mail is missing from the Applications and Services menu when categorizing this message? All the other apps are there.

I’ve only had my iPhone 15 pro for about 3 weeks. I was having the problem with the Apple Mail app not remembering ‘previously used folders’ to move mail into. Yesterday, I saw where an upgrade to iOS 17.1 fix someone else’s problem. I upgraded from 17.02 to 17.1 last night. Apple’s mail app is now working as before.

my email folder suggestions are also no longer working. I tried a reset, a hard reset, clearing all junk and trashed messages, and even renaming a larger folder. Nothing has worked. The notes app also has some bugs and it appears that entries are duplicated at times and other times the entry ends up on a different line. All of these bugs appeared after upgrading to IOS 17 and with all later versions. Is there a way to revert to an older IOS???? I would totally be willing to spend the time considering the time it now takes to file emails.

Ah — I missed the “one sender” part.

The only way I know to delete all mails from one sender is to type their email address in the search and then hit edit and drag down the left side over the hollow circles to choose them all then click the trashcan. Don’t ever recall it ever being done differently for deleting mail from a single sender in Apple mail but that may be because I’ve only ever done it this way.

Same issue. I upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro from an iPhone 8. I sit the two phones side by side and let Apple configure and transfer all my settings and data to my new iPhone. I figured it was just because the phone was new and after moving a few emails, everything would start working as before.

I don’t understand why Apple would take away such a useful feature.

There are 2 other things I wish Apple would implement in their mail app.

First, let users mark and move spam emails into the junk folder. I have to go into Gmail, Yahoo, etc to mark spam emails - what a pain!

Second, Apple won’t let you slide gmails to the left to delete like in other email accounts. You have to open the Gmail email and move it to trash. Another pain in the neck.

To make this feature work, the Mail app looks for patterns in how you have filed similar messages in the past. This process does not succeed 100% of the time, so there will always be messages that won't have a filing suggestion and that is the way it always worked. If you are getting an accurate suggestion most of the time then this bug is not affecting you.

This issue appears again in ios 17.4. Zilllions of subfolders on the DCIM/Internal storage ranging from "202403_a" upto "202403_z" and then starting at "202403aa". Total chaos ... can't find anything what I need to find based on date/time. Currently at "202403da" ... where does it end .. two weeks after release of this reappearing bug. Does this menace wants us to stop taking pictures, stop receiving social media images of videos or worse ... swap our phones for samsung trash with google spywear?
