Where is the dock in watchOS 10?

What happened to DOCK, which gave me quick access to the 10 apps I selected and use most, in Watch OS 10? Also, how is pushing the side button easier or better than a quick swipe up to access the Control Panel?

So the swipe up gives you the apps, and pushing the Crown gives you the apps. Both give you the same function?

No.

  • Swipe up gives you the widget stack.
  • Pushing the crown once gives you the apps.
  • Pushing the crown twice gives you the app switcher (analogous to the Dock on previous versions).
  • Pushing the bottom below the crown brings up the Control Center.

Yes, I am speaking of the side button. I don’t think any user requires settings to be so accessible that the side button is needed to be the way to access it. It was simple to access by swiping. It was always accessible. Replacing the Dock, and removing the Dock, made my most important features: O2, Heart monitoring, and HomeKit inaccessible. All things I expected working when the medical event happened. Not features I could use Siri to access because I couldn’t breathe well. Apple is obliged to keep medical functions accessible if it continues to market these functions in these products. Hiding, misplacing, or removing these features isn’t something you can sort when a crisis is happening. This is more than an aesthetic issued with the UX!

You can think whatever you want. You can have all the opinions you want. But the bottom line is that no one here in these forums can change anything. So, except for the possible catharsis, complaining here will accomplish nothing. Tell Apple what you thing:

Yes bring back settable favorites (dock). “Recents” is not the same as favorites. Shame on the program manager for removing it. 😝

I am a software developer of 60 years, from before it was a term for computer programmer. Compilers and other systems software, most recently (now retired) very complex User Interfaces - UI. Yes a major change in latest watch OS , not all bad. But I can see no justification for removing the dock.

No one here can do that. Apple does not read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

But I can see no justification for removing the dock.

That doesn't mean thre isn't one, though. I doubt Apple just randomly changes things to mess with people's heads. The fact that they do not chose to share their reasons doesn't mean there are no reasons.

That is incorrect. Incorrect information on this subject will cause this thread to continue to go around in circles. Pressing the side button (Current Watch OS) NOT the Digital Crown, brings up a control panel (which includes things like find my phone, theater mode, airplane mode and such). If yours brings up the dock, then you are not on the most current OS.

I'm not entirely clear why you posted a link to this thread. In this thread.

That page offers dock alternatives that are not as useful.

If you mean the alternatives I suggested to katygal1 for their particular situation, they seemed to find my suggestions helpful. But, as I noted previously, not every suggestion will help every person.

Please restore a favorites for regularly used watch apps

No one here in this user-to-user forum can do that. Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

I agree with the above statement by RiddlerMA. I find the ping my phone option that, used to be on the dock, very helpful at times.

The "Ping" option is in the Control Center, where it has always been. The difference is that, instead of swiping up on the screen to access the Control Center, you tap the side button (the one next to the Digital Crown). It's oval and flat.

The latter is much more intuitive and the new change adds no functionality.

Not so IMO.

I don't find swiping up for the Control Center any more intuitive than pressing the side button.

Moving the Control Center to the Side Button allowed Swipe Up to be available for a new configurable feature , Smart Stack, giving users quick access to multiple apps without switching watch faces as some did in the past.

I use the control center once in a blue to ping my phone. What do you use the control center for so often? And do you think there should be a dedicated button just for it with no option to change function of said button?

I check my battery. I ping my phone. I turn theatre mode on and off. But, seriously, the number of people who complain about not being able to find the Control Center since the update seems much, much higher than the number mourning the loss of the Dock. But it's not a contest. Different people use their phones differently. Every change Apple makes is going to upset someone. I really liked Glances and was sad when it was removed. The Smart Stack has some similar functions so, I'm happy.

Apple has enormous amounts of user data. They have a pretty good sense of who uses what and what features confuse and frustrate people. They probably use that information when making decisions about changes.

You should let Apple know how you feel:

WHAT a MESS! You turned a useful tool into something not recognizable. If Apple ever consulted its users, they
would have known not to remove or at the least make more difficult the watch's best features. How do I get my watch back to the old issue??
Who are the developers for this atrocity???

Tell Apple, not your fellow users, that are powerless to make changes. Use the feedback link
