iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

Hopefully this will get corrected, this Is a big pain that was NOT a problem before. But now it is after the update. How did you log you complaint with Apple? I do not want to see my call logs on my personal phone when I am using my company phone.

Why share the call history on two separate phone lines when call sync is turned off, this new update is the bug that’s causing this issue that was easily controlled in the phone settings previously for years.

You are saying it working, but I guess you don’t understand the issue because its not yours. There was nothing to correct until IOS 17.

Don't care how long you worked at something, does not mean a thing when something worked for alot of people for a long time, doesn’t mean you know what you are talking about and how other companies work, and how they can separate corporate work on a phone and personal.

I guess corporate iPhones will be a thing of the past in some companies if Apple can’t figure this out.

Right or Wrong doesn't make a difference. It's how Apple has chosen to implement this and the ONLY people complaining about it are people who share the same Apple ID. Apple is making it as clear as they possibly can that sharing an Apple ID is not recommended. It doesn't mean people can't share an Apple ID. But if they do, this is going to be how it works and people either live with it or stop sharing an Apple ID.

Thanks for the research. Out of curiosity, I just went Settings > FaceTime and turn off the People Can Contact You On All Devices switch, phones will stop sharing call logs and I don't see any setting to turn off the People Can Contact You, setting?

The wording may be somewhat different than that reported in the reddit thread.

My phone is capable of running iOS 17, but is still on iOS 15 right now. I have it set up to let my Mac place and receive phone calls – and looking in FaceTime on the Mac now, I see a bunch of call history entries that clearly must be from the iPhone.

The entries are not as detailed as on the iPhone - for instance, they have dates, but no times.

We can't help with advice. We are NOT Apple. We didn't design or have anything to do with iOS or even work for Apple. If you call Apple, they are going to tell you this is how they intended it to work. There's not a thing ANYONE here can offer you. Devices which use the same Apple ID will get the call history made on every device using the same Apple ID. And that's that. You're looking for help, which is non-existent.

If I were you, I'd erase my work phone and set it up with it's own Apple ID. Boom, problem solved. Call history will NOT be shared between devices not on the same Apple ID. You've chosen to use the same Apple ID on more than one iPhone. That is your choice. But then don't complain when it's doing what Apple intended it to do, regardless of whether it did in the past.

I find many of the answers on this thread annoying.  Most are saying "don't share your apple ID", with yourself, your kids, your spouse.  Wonder why Apple has Family Sharing?

Family sharing exists so that you can share the things you want or need to without sharing an Apple ID.

I suggest you look into that.

I can certainly understand your frustration, though... after all, it's just Apple's opinion of how their system is designed to work...

I’m sure I’m one of the people whose responses have annoyed you. And that’s fine. I’m not sharing an opinion. I’m sharing what Apple’s position is on the sharing of Apple IDs. They don’t recommend it. And each year, they’ve made it just a little bit harder to do so. If you don’t like Apple’s position on that, you are welcome to provide feedback to them with the feedback link provided in this thread.

I to take exception with your comment about Family Sharing. Family Sharing was introduced to help people who do NOT share an Apple ID. It lets them share content, such as apps, photos, iCloud storage, etc. If family members are on the same Apple ID, Family Sharing is pointless and doesn’t need to ever be turned on.

You are more than welcome to be annoyed by people like me telling you sharing an Apple ID is not recommended by Apple. That’s perfectly fine.

I feel you,

I tried various settings without luck and out of frustration I started to think about replacing the second iPhone with something else, at least I can use my single email to register my second phone.

Perhaps you would be less frustrated if you tried following the directions for how it's supposed to be used instead of rejecting reality and substituting your own.

No that doesn’t work anymore. According to the guys that don’t work for Apple but know exactly what Apple is thinking, Apple doesn’t want you to share you Apple ID even though this isn’t sharing, and they have done this to make it harder to share your id even though this isn’t sharing but have left the other 99.9% of things alone that you also wouldn’t want shared, even though this isn’t sharing, alone.
