iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

I have spent hours with Apple and ATT since the IOS 17 updates last week. I have a work iphone and a personal iphone. Ever since the updates I have a call to either phone show up as a recent on the other phone and any voicemails left are on both phones as well. It worked fine for years having two phones with one Apple id and I'm hoping you'll listen to myself and others and fix this.

One option for me is to go down to one phone with two numbers but then if I'm one line not even an emergency call on the other line would ring. There are other not goo things as well as I can't be talking with someone and use the internet like when I'm in the car and have no wi-fi.

The other option is to get separate Apple ids for each of my phones which essentially reduces one of the phones to a shell of a phone as I'd delete a lot of apple apps so as not to update something on them and not have it update on the other phone. There are a lot of drawbacks with this option as well.

Neither option is acceptable to me when things were working fine until this update.

PLEASE LISTEN TO US AND FIX THIS ASAP!! THANKS.

Debra

Simple solution is to log out of your ID on your work phone. Thats what I did at first until I found a temporary work around, I have also not updated my work phone to the latest IOS version, so I am not sure how long it will work.

Not sure what apple is thinking doing this. Its a big mistake.

I cannot speak for others, but I cannot use my work email for a ID, so all we can do is wait, we have alot of apple devices that are not working correctly because of apples stance on their ID.

This will not be good for corporate phone sales, good for android phones and google phones.

I have warned alot of my coworkers about this update and avoid downloading it on their workphone and personal phone. Its more trouble than its worth.

It seems like something was missed, if someone texts my company phone number its goes to that phone, not both, Yes I can select texts to go to all of my devices if I want, but apple gives that option to select that. Call log sync is something new that I don’t recall having to deal with before, both facetime calls appeared in my facetime call logs on both phones, to be expected of course, but not my actual phone call logs.

"We offer call history syncing as a convenience to our customers so that they can return calls from any of their devices," an Apple spokesperson told iMore.

That iMore article is dated March 2, 2018. MacTracker indicates that iOS 11.2.6 was the latest release of iOS out at that time. iOS 12 was still months away.

And as I mentioned it’s something that has not been an issue before when we as corporate phone users, chose to separate the phones. Any other phone update did not mess with the user’s settings.

The apple tech said its a known problem, and they are hoping to have a resolution shortly. Probably a canned message to tell me what I wanted to hear.

Looks like this response is to kilted tim this is not directed at that user, I don’t know how to just post without a response to a user in my header.

Can someone please explain to me how making a suggestion to call apple to file a complaint, is against the rules? I don’t understand how it is inappropriate.

I am trying to help users, but I keep getting moderated, I don't have a clue as to why.

I can not reply to the email so I clueless as to what I am doing wrong.

I completely agree with you and my situation is identical to yours- I have a separate phone number for each phone. Is that what you have? I spent hours between ATT and Apple. No setting they told me to turn off did anything.

There are massive disadvantages in either going down to one phone with two phone numbers on it (if I'm on say a work call and my husband has an emergency and is trying to reach me on my personal number it will not even show another call is trying to come in- I'd only know when I got off and only that a voicemail would be present), or a second apple id on my work phone (I would have to make that phone a shell of a phone as I'd have to turn off a lot of apple features as none of them will sync anymore with the other phone). I am hoping they resolve this.

My response was to seniorinfl, that the apple tech suggestion I previously posted the night before, didn’t work for them.

My post was about not having two ID’s between spouse's which I agree with, and to make a complaint with Apple tech like I did lastnight, but my issue is different because its a corporate phone that I have is my second one, not a personal phone.

I have reviewed the guidelines, thats why I am lost, on my last post.

Sorry. We're just users like you are and we don't know why. The best thing to do here is provide the feedback link, which is Apple's preferred way to hear from users about an issue. Everyone is now well aware call logs are merged if the same Apple ID is shared on more than one iPhone. And everyone is well aware, users can't change that. Since this is an issue which no one on this forum can solve, the only thing that makes sense is to simply use the feedback link and go on with your life. Either Apple will do something or they won't. But it can't be solved here.

Note again that Apple considered call history syncing to be a feature as of 2018.

Can you show us where there is a Call History Syncing preference in iOS 15 or 16 than Apple removed in iOS 17? You should be able to show us one given that you're talking about an update "mess[ing] with the user's settings."

I originally came to this string looking for users who might have found a SOLUTION to my issues. Instead I find people who have the issue - and no fix (Understandable) and people who do not have 2 phones, so are clueless what has worked in the past.

Yes, I have read in the past about this "cool" ability to share call logs. But the facts are - I have had 2 phones that have shared an apple ID since 2010. I have no idea what iOS that would have been. 2 phones, phone numbers have not changed - the apple ID has been the same for 13 years.

Update to iOS17 and the call log issues starts. There are user settings Apple stepped on. My phones have NEVER been connected to iCloud. Yet iOS17 turned that lovely (not) app on - on both phones. My phones have always had Air Drop & Handoff turned off. But iOS17 turned both on - I assume so I could do that head to head transfer. There are more.

My point is - apple does step on settings - when it suits them. The above were easy enough to go in and change. But not before ALL my contacts (300+) from my personal phone - showed up on my work phone (and then updated my work Exchange account!). Thank you iCloud. All because apple thought turning on iCloud was a good idea.

Turned it off, but then had to remove 300+ contacts from exchange!

There is no solution that works - except to log out of your ID on the work phone. Or get a new ID. I opted to try both. The issues I had - unique to me I am sure - with no log in were too many. So I set up an new ID. I am allowed to use my work email - they don't have that restriction.

So for all who say "this is what apple wants". Well, now my work phone - with its own ID - I do not have a wallet. Download the app, never shows in settings. I can't share my location. Yes, I have all the settings correct - but when it receives a request to share - hitting the share button does NOTHING and never goes away. It was able to share before the new ID! All the settings (that I have) match my personal phone. But I can't share my location.

I now have 2 phones - both 12s - both fully up to date - yet one has about 5 settings that don't exist on the work phone. THAT is something wrong with iOS 17.

One my interpret - that if apple thought call syncing was a feature since 2018 - there has been a bug for 5 years! Because it never happened in those 5 years. If a bug can persist for 5 years and no knows it - others can as well.

And by the by - it isn't just call logs that share. iMessages do as well. That was an easy fix, I just turned it off on my work phone. But that shares too now. Never before.

Sorry for the long post - just needed to point out that iOS 17 isn't perfect. Bugs exists.

It was easy, once you deselected that you didn’t want messages etc to go to all devices on your ID, call logs did not show up on all devices. Now the same procedure does not work with the IOS 17.

I can stop all other syncing between devices but the call logs. So yes this is a bug, and Apple told me that this is a known problem that they are working on resolving. They Could of been telling what I wanted to hear as well.

Mine is broken also, I have a work phone and a personal one that share an Apple ID, I have always been well versed in making sure each phone does not have the other number toggled on etc, but now this bull ****, I have missed work calls and messages showing up in my personal device and vice versa, so I don’t know if it’s a work call or a personal one I missed, Apple need to fix this, it has never been a “workaround” the way I have been doing this in the past is the way Apple have always allowed you to do it, even on forums where an Apple person chimes in this is the method to do what you want to do and that’s why those options exist, for some reason in iOS 17 they have pulled the rug and we are stuck with this. Looks like now I have to create another Apple ID just to use my work phone ffs.
