iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

Well as one person I now have 2 Apple id’s. As I have 2 phones as 1 person. Leaving me with the fact that I cannot easily switch between my phones when using AirPods. Also Apple Music is no longer available. And as I am only one person I’m not willing to pay extra for family sharing as 1 person is not a family. So please stop indicating this is how it’s intended as no one knows what was intended even at Apple support they cannot indicate what is intended.

Just completed a service request that was escalated to a senior support level with Apple for this issue. Same message was delivered "this is how it works and has always worked that way". The fact is it was not an issue that could not be disabled until ios17. Maybe Apple will get the hint on correcting this or lose a faithful client base. I am due for a trade up and will not stay with Apple based in the inability to understand and resolve a pretty big privacy issue between devices. Call logs should be unique to the your phone number and device period. If you want to share call logs, you can make that call...not the vendor.

I understand not liking this. But to say it's a privacy issue, when you are using the very same Apple ID on more than one iPhone negates privacy as a concern. This means you WANT to share the same data on all the devices using the same ID. If you truly want privacy, don't use the same Apple ID. And I get you'd like to see a switch to alter this. But Apple owns the software on our devices and we have a license to use that software. If it doesn't suit your needs, then yes, buying something else may make more sense for you. It doesn't matter to us, as we're all users here. You should always buy whatever best meets your needs. OR, recognize the issues resulting from using the same Apple ID on more than one phone and change that. Your choice, of course.

Following as this is a legitimate issue for me as well and I've submitted feedback. I understand that this by design and this is a user forum, but seeing some people post the same thing every third post is not helpful. We get it.

Lots of people don't get it. What you may not realize is how many people read the question, the recommended/solved posts and nothing else. So, repeating the suggestion to post feedback is not nearly as pointless as you think. And that's not even taking into account the people who repeatedly post the same complaints. We get it; there are people don't like the change.

Privacy. Don’t we need an 4 digital authorization code to share texting/ iMessages with a iPad or other devices on the same account?

The four or 6 digit code is called a passcode and it's to let you into the device to use it. It has NOTHING to do with the available data in the devices, once you've opened any device on the same Apple ID. It's used to validate you have the credentials to open the device and use it. So again, this is NOT a privacy issue. Use the same Apple ID on multiple devices (regardless whether each device has a different passcode, which Apple actually recommends) has nothing do with the privacy of data available on the devices.

I understand the frustration you and others are having. But this is simply NOT a privacy issue. You have chosen to use the same Apple ID on more than one iPhone. As far as Apple is concerned, they are one account, regardless if they are on two phones.

I was just following this thread and I was thinking why would you share your Apple ID with others? I personally wouldn’t, I can share it with my devices but not with someone else they could d/l all my files and photos delete them … I prefer the share my position or family share options, just a thought

The people here who seem most concerned, are people who have a personal iPhone and work iPhone and they use the same Apple ID on both phones. They don't want the call logs merged, which they actually should have been merging before iOS 17. I will be very surprised if Apple does anything to change this.

I wouldn't either. I work. I get work phone calls. I don't need a separate phone for work. My work calls come through an app my employer provides and I can see the work related call logs in the app, which are exclusive to my job. The last thing I'd want to do is carry two phones with me. But there are many who do. If a phone is provided by and required by an employer, I wouldn't want my employer to have access to my personal Apple ID, EVER.
