iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

I just updated our two phones to 17.1 and the problem still exists. Since I had worked this with second level support along with lots of tests and screen shots which were sent to engineering I was hopeful. Maybe next time😟

I wouldn't hold your breath for an update to change this in the future. It is working as Apple intended, whether it is welcome to those who run more than 1 iPhone with the same Apple ID or not.

This feature should be bind or related only to the cell number and not the APPLE ID. I have two phones, each one with their own numbers with the same APPLE ID. When I grab cell #1 with # 888-888-8888 I just want to see who dial this number. I don't want to see the history on any other devices I have like cell #2 with # 777-777-7777. PERIOD. Easy to understand. It was like this since the beginning of the iPhone era.

How can I unbind this information from my Apple ID asap? Phone calls I have, is personal information that I don't prefer to share with Apple.

You can most definitely complain. But it is not a personal data issue and Apple isn't sharing, nor collecting anything. Apple didn't force you to use the same Apple ID on more than one iPhone. You made that choice and as far as your data goes, you are freely permitting the data to be shared across devices as a natural result of using the same ID on more than one iPhone. That was your choice. No one else's.

AirPods work on devices sharing the same AppleID. That is intended. Now on my work iPhone I’m forced to use a different ID. As I’m not willing to wonder on which phone I missed a call from an unknown number and guessing which iPhone to use when returning the call. So now I cannot easily switch devices with my AirPods and this was one of the reason why I purchased them. So please stop indicating that this is because we are sharing. So people might, but others definitely don’t. They just have more devices.

I already gave feedback.

I have a solution to the problem awhile ago, I have not synced call logs since then. Now that temporary solution is just that, temporary. Until apple realizes how many work and personal phone users are not happy with the changes, and revert the changes it in a update. Or until workers such as myself choose an android for a work phone.

I know we are supposed to get tablets at work, I probably will not be requesting a IPad, but I can deselect message syncing, why not call syncing.

I feel the need to say that surely the call history data ‘issue’ would happen regardless of whether you have another device for it to sync to or not? I’m not a techy person but logic would suggest they either collect that data or not (and evidently they do) and then you either have another device to sync it to or not - one is not dependent on the other. So if you’re concerned this is a data privacy issue, it’s an issue whether or not you choose to use the same ID on multiple devices or not.

Personally I’m not too worried about that element, and I would have assumed Apple had this data before this behaviour became apparent anyway.

Also, whilst I sympathise with the ‘this is Apple’s chosen behaviour’ line, and the ‘we’re not Apple stop complaining to us’ message (as unhelpful as it is), it does seem that there are several people on this thread that HAVE spoken to ‘Apple’ (or their tech support at least) and are reporting that it is an issue that is being worked on to resolve. I’m not clear why this isn’t indication enough that this ISN’T intentional or desired? And why people who keep pointing out they’re not Apple seem to have more authority on what Apple does or doesn’t want?

I’ll continue to hope it gets resolved in a future update.

Apple does very strange things, I have seen negative updates over the years but this IOS 17 takes the cake.

One update in particular that comes to mind is my music play list. Years ago after a update I noticed downloaded music from Itunes not show up on my phones music list on my PC. Now I have to take a screenshot of my music list on my phone so I can rebuild what disappears after I sync to Itunes.

bug waste of my time and I do not sync my phone to Itunes as much because of that.

if someone has figured that out, I would like to know why itunes will not register my playlist when it’s hooked up to my computer.

this is just an example and I know its off topic from the original one.

I have been bringing this up at work and tech guys said that Apple like to make things complicated and the reason they do not like using Apple products.
