iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

You're going to find out this is a short term solution, which almost everyone has performed doesn't work long term and within hours or a day, doesn't work. Come back in a couple days and report the results, if you would.

The one thing that sounds different about the suggestion is rebooting both iPhones after changing the setting of the iCloud Phone switches.

I have no idea whether it is actually going to make a difference in terms of long-term behavior, but it is somewhat plausible that the effect of the switch only "takes" after rebooting the phone. IF the purpose of the switch has to do with the call logs. (There still doesn't seem to be any clear explanation from Apple themselves as to what the purpose of this new switch actually is.)

I had the two people in my office who share the same Apple ID, Force Restart both iPhones after turning off phone in iCloud and nope. Didn't make a difference. And let's face it, at some point anyone who does this will have to update their iPhone, so any momentary success will be wiped as Apple apparently is not interested in altering the merged call logs/voicemail messages on shared Apple IDs. People need to either accept it or separate. I don't get why a couple who share an Apple ID would be upset about this to begin with? They've ALWAYS had the ability to read each others text messages without the other's permission or even knowledge.

I only have one iPhone – so it doesn't affect me personally. But I am now curious about what that new "Phone" switch does. If we make the working assumption that it doesn't have anything to do with call log sharing – and that this is by design – what exactly is there left for it to control?

If you turn on the switch on two iPhones that are sharing one Apple ID, and then call one of the iPhones from a landline phone, do both iPhones ring – and do they allow you to take the call on either? (Analogous to how you can answer phone calls on a Mac, with the aid of a nearby iPhone?)

Maybe others here can think of similar experiments to find out what this mystery switch does.

THANK YOU! I’ve been doing research since iOS17 update. My boyfriend & I share the same Apple ID (2-different phone #’s) to make my life easier to resolve issues when they arise. I hoe they figure this out because it’s a pain in the rear.

If I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Apple to do anything about this. The one sure way to not share call logs, voicemail messages or text messages (which you've always had the ability to read your boyfriends message - without his permission and he yours) is to stop sharing the same Apple ID.

I THOUGHT YOUR SOLUTION WORKED BUT IT DID NOT !! Later in the day shared phone call history showed up again. BIG BUMMER. Hope it’s fixed with next iOS update.

It's NOT going to be fixed as Apple clearly does NOT believe this is behavior which needs to be fixed. The ONLY sure way to stop sharing call logs and voicemail messages is to STOP sharing an Apple ID. That's the ONLY solution.

How can you continue to insist there is nothing to fix when there is literally a series of switches in the settings menu that does exactly that for multiple other items like notes, messages and FaceTime, and one for phone that seems to do nothing (albeit for an hour it does something -only once, then goes back) There’s a switch on the wall that isn’t connected to anything. Either the switch shouldn’t be there, or it’s not doing what it should. It’s a bug one way or another.
